Some time ago I was given a very tired trailer sailer of unknown brand.... the aim is to rebuild it with a trip down the Murray in mind
135609 135610 135611
the first time I put it in the water it promptly sank due to centre case slot not being sealed properly when someone ripped the trunk out.
the plan is to re build it with an outboard in a well, cabin, steering via rudder hung off transom
I like this boat which I will be copying a lot
135612 135616 135617 135618 135621
the start...... these pictures are from 12/14 months ago so I'll post what I have got that show from this...................
135609 to where I am at present 135619 135620
Hull was gutted as every bit of timber was rotten, cabin was glassed ply which surprised me perhaps one hull was used for different topside configurations
135623 135624 135625 135626 sweet shape[bigsmile1]
Setting up spiles to give a guide to boat lengthening planking lands
135628 135629 135630 135632 135633
From here it was just a matter of planking in 3/8 ply to follow existing lines of hull then cutting out original transom

I used to sail in 16 footers out of Drummoyne Sailing Club and remember Trailer Sailers going backwards in the teeth of a good NorEaster LOL.
Good luck with the build

Will watch with eagerness Paul.
I've had nothing to do with wooden boats really, but used to love driving through Mordialloc and seeing the big one out the front there being worked on.
Did have a mate many years ago who had similar with an old grey Holden motor to run it. Went well, not fast of course, but was sturdy and reliable I think. The red one certainly looks sweet.

Marcus actual base hull is fibreglass which I'm grafting plywood to, so not quiet a wooden boat. I'm trying to get the felling of 40s 50s era boat
will put up more pictures soon

Thought I might find you here... [smilebigeye]
Restoring an old boat is a project that has always appealed to me, in particular one powered by steam. Unfortunately I'm more naughty than nautical... [bighmmm]

Paul, would this boat normally have a small inboard motor with rudder, as opposed to an outboard?

When I first got the boat its primary power was sail,in hindsight maybe I could have fitted a small engine and shaft drive but an outboard seemed an easier option.
The outboard will be locked in dead ahead position and steering will be by a trasom hung rudder and cable pulley system to a wheel in wheel house

Drop a 186 in it....lol
Thinking 9.9........but back in the mid 70s my 161 HR panel van died, so after a visit to Repco found a 186 block somewhere in hard rubbish and they gave me a 192 recod short motor after some cash exchanged hands, my mate and I were amazed that everything off the 161 went onto the 192 including the head
shouldnt have bothered as in the end rust never sleeps[bigsad]

Things are slowly coming along, cabin roof now buttoned down, still need to glass cover it but will wait until decks are down.

Not sure what wheel house profile is going to look like yet but I'm happy with height
Fuel storage area is now going to be general stowage and drained gas bottle lockers, donor car I picked up has given up a 65ltr baffled aluminium tank so I'm gunna work this in some how[thumbsupbig]

After two years cars are done and time to get back to this....20 litres of epoxy on order [bigsmile]
165773 this what I'm aiming for but ideas can change. I like the look of a plumb stem but it is probably to difficult to achieve now.
Inside cabin is also going to be revamped going more for a day boat more than a dedicated cabin cruiser

Took the wheels off the trailer to gain more room to work on the cockpit roof
165927
got the roof glued down now I can workout my overhangs if any and the windscreen
165928 165929
I’ve used polyurethane glue while I wait for my epoxy to arrive, when it does I’ll fillet and tape the joins with thickened epoxy
It’s good to be back working with wood again after cleaning LR parts for two years [tonguewink]

Proportions look right all over, it’s coming up great. 👍. Yes, a second porthole further forward wouldn’t look out of place either.
What motive power will it have - does it have a small inboard motor or will it be powered by an outboard?

7mm roof with two extra strips laminated to make 21mm on sides and front to give the illusion thick roof without the weight, this will be radiused later
