Hi All,

First time post. I have a 2007 4L v6 SE and I have been noticing that when I park on a hill and have less than one quarter of fuel in the tank the car can stall. It won't then restart again until I am on flat ground. From what I understand there are two fuel pick ups in the tank and this problem only happens when I am facing down hill and not up. Therefore I have to assume there may be an issue with the front pick up.

Has anyone had something similar and fixed? Not sure what to do and I don't ever want the situation when I'm off road facing down a hill and stall only to be left with no brakes!

Has the tank been dented at all at some stage?

I have only owned the car since April this year so it certainly hasn't happened on my watch but I haven't inspected for dents either.

Does anyone have any idea of what it would look like to fix the problem if my diagnosis is correct?
Can the fuel pickups be changed/flushed out or am I looking at a new tank? Cost?

If you have the time etc you can take the tank out as all connectors are clip in type and only a few bolts hold it up. Make sure you are near enough empty otherwise its heavy. I thought mine was empty as when I took the filler hose off no fuel came out. I found out afterwards that there is a safety flap in there and you need a long screw driver to operate it. I took forty litres out. My gauge was not working hence why removing the tank to fix.

Thanks Globetrotter.
Are the fuel pickups accessible from outside the tank or are they inside only? Is there any sort of flushing that can be done by a mechanic when the tank's removed that could possibly fix the issue?

Accessed by removing unit from inside tank via the top.

When I had my tank out, I used a camera (the type on an flexible extension) to have a look around and that's how I found a broken wire from the fuel level sensor.
