Hi Everyone,

I have a A/C gas leak from the evaporator where it goes through the firewall.

I have been told that this cannot be replaced on its own (comes fitted in the box with blower motor) and to buy a replacement it would be $1500 plus fitting.

Does anyone know if the evaporator is available on its own?

Thanks In advance.

Hugh

That same part cost me 3K for the stealer (aptly named) to replace. That was after a ham fisted mobile aircon bloke diagnosed the gas loss as from the compressor and pulled the dust filter out of the pulley end to show the merest trace of green dye.
He got the internal seals replaced but told me the seal he'd ruined wasn't available "and anyway it doesn't matter as you can't see it"!!!!
That was when him and me parted company. And I didn't pay him for the work he'd done or the seals replaced.

PS. Anyone want a 110 aircon compressor with a missing seal? Going cheap.........

Depending on the size of the leak, you can get a syringe style chemical to inject into the system to seal the leak internally. We use it on larger domestic and commercial air conditioners but there is a small capacity one as well. It’s called (appliance) leak freeze. pm me if you’re interested and I’ll get a price for you.
