Hi hoping someone can Point me in the right direction I have a loud annoying squeak it sounds like it's coming from the dash area 2.2 Puma. Had one on the drivers door found silicon spray on the rubber fixed that. Has anyone had this and what was the fix before I start pulling the dash apart next week
cheers Eddie

Coming from the dash...

Can we try and narrow this down a bit?!

I thought it was the dash so I took the wife out for a spin to have listen around she reckons it's coming from the gear shift area

Watching with interest....I've had a squeak in my Puma dash for the last 3 years and while I would like to get all the squeaks, rattles and odd noises in Monty fixed, part of me thinks I'd miss them.

Have you tried tightening up the screws that hold the front fascia panel? They may have loosened up a little over time.

I had one before
Turns out to be the bonnet hinge....
Spray some lanolin and the squeak is gone

Good luck hunting!

will try the facia screws and the bonnet hinges, my missis thought the sound came from the front of the cubby box around the gear leavers. So with the help of Google one potential issue is the weights at the bottom of the gearshift coming loose, looks easy to fix, watched a you tube video on installing a slick shift to see how to remove the gear shift leaver. Will try these on my next days off which will be Wed keep you posted of the outcome.
feel free for anymore suggestions on the possible cause.
get rid of all my rattles and groans might be able to turn the stereo down

The mystery continues the squeak has disappeared after being continuously getting worse over the last few months, the only thing different is I drove through quite a lot of deep water on the road home from work last night we had a big storm hit.
Thinking now maybe the water had something to do with it lubricating something that may of been dry underneath near the gearbox/front end. So I will shimmy under the car and check everything especially sway bars and shockie rubbers as the squeak was simular to the one I had with my door rubbers, as well as the other items. If the squeak comes back first I will take the car for a spin after each item is tightened or lube applied to try and pin the exact cause down.

I have the same problem more of a rattle on dirt roads, that only happened after my last simmo trip,
I have taken out the speedo cluster, radio cluster to look for anything that is loose or broken, even checked the security if the AC pipes...everything appears OK.
Never thought of the bonnet hinges....eventhough they are in a plastic bush, I will give them a spray with Innox and see what happens.

Well found the source of the noise two locations the one the wife could hear near the gear shift was the weights at the bottom of the gear shift easy fix.
1. Lift the floor mat.
2. Pull up the rubber gater on the gear shift.
3. Pull out the two white tabs on the gear shift, it will then lift off the gearbox.
4. Pull out of the gater and apply super glue to the weights to stop them rattling.
Re assembly by reverse steps.

The second source was the steering damper, it was the outer steel shroud that slides over the damper that was loose and rattling around. A couple of tacks with the welder and as good as new.
I can turn the radio down now

Yeah, my squeaking dash turned out to be the bonnet hinges too... took me over a year to find that one.

A further rattling noise was the clip that hold the battery cover on, underneath the passenger seat.

Just setting these down here for future squeak-hunters : )
