Hi,

My partner and i will soon be arriving in Australia, where we intend to spend 1-2 years travelling. Being a huge Land Rover fan, my preferred arrangement would be to have a 110 or 130 tray back, with a slide on camper on the back. Are there any rules or regulations i should be aware of, for being the owner/user of a slide on? From what I've read about owning/using a caravan in Aus, it appears that you guys have much stricter rules to abide by than we do in the UK for instance.

Thanks in advance.

Are you buying a defender and slide on once you arrive or are you shipping one over??

List the myths you have read so we proof them or squash them.

Lots of free camping in aus, along with national parks and beach and everything in between

Anything you buy commercially will be fine,, its only the weight that you'll need to worry about,, and even then with a 110 you would have to be unlucky,,

I didnt think we had many regs at all,, nearly all are to do with weight,,

Hi, Thanks for the replies. I intend to buy in Aus, though second hand, as can't afford to buy anything new. My main concern was over any regulations relating to fixing the slide on, on the back of the tray. I assume that because slide ons are removable, they are classed as a load? no different to a pile of logs or building supplies?

Is there a specific website that lists all the free camping?

Thanks for the help.

lots of different ways to get free camp info,,
WikiCamps Australia | Camping app for Australia | Travel | iPhone iPad iPod Android Phone Tablet | Camping, Caravan Parks, Backpacker Hostels, Day Stops, Rest Areas, Information Centres, Points of Interest, POI, Dump Points (https://www.wikicamps.com.au/)

is one,,

I would think the slide-on camper itself would tell you how to attach it....

you out there Mrs HH ??

Attaching the slide is quite simple.....four turn buckles for most.

Have a look at this thread, and maybe contact VNX or Ranga as they both own one

I have camped with Ranga and Trayon look a good option.

I went with a Poptop, may be an option

Thanks for all the advise, really helpful.

Weeds, I've had a look at the 120 you mentioned, nice but a bit above what i have to spend. Ill keep a lookout and see what's available around the time we get out there, currently unsure exactly when that will be.

Thanks again.
