Has anyone had any experience with the newly released Chinese LDV T60 four wheel drive dual cab ute?
What do you guys think of them?

From what I have read the journos from the various organisations seem to be generally supportive of the ute. Yes – they do find some small niggles- they wouldn't be motoring journos if they didn't – but these whinges seem to be somewhat trivial. This is most unlike the reviews accorded to other Chinese imports as well as the Indian utes when they first arrived here in Oz.

I thought the specs and pricing of the LDV T60 were impressive. If the drive experience matches the equipment and price levels then initial sales may well take many by surprise. The monkey in the cage however is long term reliability and parts prices.

So far the T60s are only available in diesel spec but from what I read a petrol variant is on its way. To my way of thinking petrol engined cars suit the driving habits of the average urbanite with much running being sub 5 km trips aka schools, shops even work etc. Short trips ae not a strong point of diesel engines with their complex anti pollution gear.

Not sure that there are too many reviews on the ute yet, as they are a fairly new release. They did well in the ancap ratings. The LDV vans have been around a while and are used by couriers, commercial operators in NZ, there may be some reviews as to the longevity of the vans, which may give some idea.

Plenty of T60 reviews here Gordie.

I did check the LDV van ownership reviews out and the experiences posted are generally positive.

Well the company was part of British Leyland as well so presumably things can only have improved under private ownership? [bigrolf]

I enquired about these as also looking at the Foton and Mahindra, these are now the norm in South Africa and beyond and are starting to get very good reviews, in Oz the Mahindra and LDV dealers could not have been more helpful and honest, after contacting Foton 2 weeks ago I have not heard a thing...

The Mahindras are very popular here in Madagascar, Zambia and Nambia and handle everything thrown at them, remember these cars are developed in countries with absolutely rubbish roads, poor maintenance and less than gentle drivers... etc...

Even if they are okay or good, there is the issue of depreciation, and its going to be bad.

here you go - they look a bit triton-like

2.8 motor - VM (pity it's not the Cummins)

Resale value isn't an issue, they won't have one, use it till it expires :), $28,000 over 5 years - a ranger would probably achieve that anyway.

30k worth 10k in 3 years as opposed to 60k worth 30k in the years... what's the difference...?

The cheaper one is the better buy[biggrin]

You can probably haggle a superceded new stock triton for $28k(?), and the resale should be significantly better.

Landrover Discoveries have the same depreciation problems, Much to the joy of us lot that cannot afford the ludicrous costs of buying a New Disco [bigwhistle]

We run both the Triton and Ford Ranger here with the 2.2l engine, they are both horrible poorly built vehicles... at 40k they are scrapped.

The only vehicles that last are Mahindra's, GAZ, KAMAZ and one 1993 110... we are now buying Landcruisers with the old 1HZ, no emission laws in Madagascar...

It is fair to say electrics and clutches don't last, 260 days of rain a year doesn't help...

As do all Land Rover products, except Defenders...

Mate of mine regrettably just sold his immaculate 80 series, for $18K,almost 400km on the clock.
Ridiculous,but it was immaculate.

I'd much rather the Chummins over a motor made by VM. I know VM have lifted their game recently, but you can't compete with a Cummins designed engine.

Yep pretty much, the East Coast has 'mountain' range of around 1200AMSL, its wet, especially now in the monsoon, Southwest coast and the plain that drops away to the West is dry... big sand dunes in the South. The North coast and St Marie island or "Libertalia" have as good coral reefs and beaches as anywhere in the world... interesting place.

Photos where I am taken 1 hour apart... anyway to stay on thread the LDV would do well, just need MT's...

Not as good as a toyota, but better than say a jeep grand cherokee. Of course, more expensive cars will typically depreciate more in dollar terms, because a drop of say 10% is more dollars for a more expensive car.

I checked some grand cherokees the other day and they had lost 40k in 4 years with average mileage. Thats $200/week. I dont think modern discos are as bad as that.

Looks like you are on the east coast. My guess nearish the north or south tip, but could be in between.https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2018/02/361.jpg
