View Full Version : This weekend who can come?

6th March 2006, 09:47 AM
Hi guys, the meeting to oppose the Gardens of Stone 2 proposal is this weekend on saturday at 11am at BillsBunkhouse on the highway to mudgee. If you can make it the meeting place is 10am at the United Servo at Lidsdale near the wang powerstation. Just take the mudgee turn off after the Jail on the other side of lithgow and follow this road till you come to the servo. After the meeting Tony and i are going to do a bit of 4wding, most probably exploring more tracks behind zig zag, those who missed the last trip we can do the track where the photos were taken last time if interested.

Those interested in camping the weekend cn do so, we are only doing a light trip on sunday morning for a couple of hours to introduce marcos to 4wding, need to be back home by 11am though. Will be exploring more tracks around the Ben Bullen State Forrest area.

Note this will be more of a social weekend with some 4wding, and to help ensure we dont loose half the tracks in the area. Even if you only come for the saturday I urge you to come and show your support. Matt

YUP - WITH BELLS ON!

I'm heading up with a neighbour of ours - Jeff. He isn't a member here or any club either. He does drive a Discovery however, and is most concerned with the procedings.

We'll meet up with you blokes at the designated point and time.

Cheers
Chris

We'll see how we go Matt. My MIL is going in for cancer surgery this Friday, and I'm leaving my distressed wife at home to attend the rally. I'll come prepared for at least being able to go on the run, and camping might have to depend on word from the hospital.....

Matt,

I'll just be there for Saturday at this stage - I'm going to a swap meet on Sunday morning at Castle Hill in Sydney.

I'll be up for drive on Saturday arvo.
I've got all this sand to shake out of my car & ZigZag should be able to do that https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ .

CAN'T BE THERE I'M AFRAID. i'm on call this weekend and it's not usually a good i dea to leave the metro area.
the petitions will be coming back to the club though, so my john holmes will be going on that. make sure you guys get your names down also.
on a good note, however, it seems we have an unlikely ally in the media. apparemtly, ian kiernan (clean up australia) was keen to get the message out about the 4wd clubs helping on clean up day. rumour has it that there was a news crew floating around some of the sites filming the good work being done.

No worries guys.

Barney- who from the club is attending?

I know alot of the guys from Overlander are going aswell. Matt

I may be able to get up there Sunday morning.

Perhaps I come up after work on Saturday and camp at your place overnight, Matt?

No worries Ron you would be welcome on the saturday to camp, at the moment it only looks like me and Tony camping. What time would you be arriving? The trip out on the sunday morning will only be for a few hrs but is close to home so wont take long to get there, i need to be home by 11am (one of staceys conditions for taking marcos off road) for Marcos' nap. Darn it. My mate Jeff (Disco) just called to say he's now got to entertain a rello who's got just this weekend for a BBQ before he's shipped off to Iraq. Oh well. Pretty decent excuse I s'pose.

I'll be coming on my own then. Is there a convoy forming at all from somewhere - say the information bay at Glenbrook at around 8:00-8:30?

Cheers

I'll be travelling up on Saturday morning but I'll be going via Bells Line of Road, not the Hwy.
Whereabouts are you in Sydney, Omaroo ?

Matt, I'll give Tony a call in a 1/2hr or so. He should be home by then.
He's planning on coming up on Friday night.

Hey Scott

I'll be coming up from the Appin area, so that means Northern Road and onto the GWH at Penrith. I suppose that we'll all just hook up at the Bunkhouse then......

Looking forward to taking the new 110 offroad (after the meeting) - which I haven't done yet. I know what all my other 4bies are capable of, but haven't got a clue what a Defender in standard trim will do yet.

Cheers

He's having some problems with his PC ATM. I'll ring him now & see what the latest is.

Hi Guys, Tony cant make it as the house that his better half was living in has been sold so he has to help move her gear out.

The meeting and the 4wding on sat arvo is still on though.

Omaroo, we arent meeting at the venue we are all meeting at the united servo opposite the Wallerawang power station. Head out of lithgow (there is United Servo on the freeway out of lithgow pass this one) and just after you pass the Jail there is an exit for mudgee to the left which takes you over the overpass (dont go straight ahead and under it) once over the bridge follow this road for about 5km or so maybe more until you come to a major intersection with the cooling towers for the power station on your left and the servo on your right, pull into the servo and if im not there i wont be far away, UHF 14 i will be on. Meeting time is 10am, my mobile is 0428969828 if you need directions or anything.

A great day https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

A fair few vehicles and people turned up. The situation doesn't seem hopeless just yet - so it isn't fate d'compli just yet.

Anyway - we ventured in Newnes again (as you do if you're in the area) and I must say that I'm utterly converted to my Defender now. It will take a little bit to get used too yet offroad (wheelbase, power delivery with the fly-by-wire Td5, etc) but I can now see what Land Rover nuts are going on about.

Thanks Ace, Scouse and xsi - I had a great time and feel that it was a worthwhile excercise.

It's a Range Rover & we can't give the public the impression these 4wds actually go off road now, can we ?

On the other hand, a Defender is supposed to be dirty.

It was a worthwhile day, even if just to understand what was being proposed.

As for the 4wding, we didnt have enough time but i still enjoyed myself. Was a top day. Have no fear Xsi you will get that courage up. Trusting the defenders capabilities is the most important thing. Matt
