Whose been grading everything up the high country.
I went up for the w'end with the wife, kids and some friends. Everyone was too scared to do the Monument Track, except a guy who rolled his Patrol a few weeks ago, so I hoped in with him and my wife drove the RR around to Clear Hills. This is NOT the narrow skinny steep track I drove 17 years ago!! My wife would drive up that!
Then the Clear Hills track is a graded car park. There was a sign saying something about not wanting to disrupt the soil around the snow gums - so instead of allowing 4WDs up there, they've excavated and graded a road & car park for everyone to park!!!?
Then my wife drove the RR to Lake Cobbler up the staircase track, I rode as a passanger in a Defender https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ . Okay, there were a few steps, but again, someone's gotten loose up there with a grader. You could get a Ford Territory up there :x
It's all a bit too tame.

Yeah it's so the Toorak crowd who've traded their old Rangies on new X5's and Merc pretenders can get up there.

When I was up there in May 05, Monument Tk was very loose with the odd big bolder churned up from the blokes with V8's and big tyres spinning their wheels to get to the top of the Tk. If you stuffed up near the top you could roll on the soft loose stuff.
The Tk to Clear Hills is suitable for soft roaders with no low Range now. 11 years ago I could't get my Subbie wagon across the drainage ditches and had to walk to the Hut. Things have change now (for the worse).
I reckon you would damage any soft roader on the Staircase even today. The rock steps still need decent ground clearance. I was up there in Jan 06.
The harder Tks I've travelled in the Vic HC really only have rocky sections which any decent 4WD would be able to contend with. (eg Bluff Tk near Lovick's and Butcher Country Tk).

some are a walk in the park.......... national park that is...
others are a real sod....
Butchers is good, but no softroader would get up it.
Blue rag i could do in a Camira
Alot are now easy compared to 2 year ogo, but next year thay could be bad again. Weather kills them in no time....
Hell
Rocky track in Toolangi 2 year ago was a locked and lifted track.
Now a stock S1 Disco can do it.
The tracked errode and then become worse or better depending on the conditon 1st.....
But yes some of the HC has been graded.
It helps the NRE Pootrols as we know LR are far better.....

Agree with grading. Over Christmas didn't find anything overchallenging in 12 days, even tracks previously driven as once hard now soft.
When will the biteumn be laid?
