He was telling me he went to the mad max get together and there was about 40 of the black coupes, and about the same of the yellow Interceptor. The bloke who built the cars for the movie judged his yellow car the best replica of the show.

Wow. I'm surprised he can remember. The film was released in 1979, so the cars must have been built more than 40 years ago.

That said, if the pics of the MFP yellow car are anything to go by I'd say he was right.

Gday Ian

Thanks

No, had the car in the family for 30 yrs , was originally the work ute, pre cross flow 6 cyl drum brakes all round. I converted it to a 289 about 2 yrs ago and fitted a disc brake front end last year. I have a 347 stroker kit for it but not sure if I want to go that way.

The original engine and everything else is sitting in the shed under a sheet.

Many years ago as a 20yo, I aquired an XT Falcon, 6 Cyl, three on the tree. It came with a twin exhaust, so it sounded good,, well, sort of, but everyone thought it was an 8 [wink11], but the engine was tired [biggrin].
I had lost my brief for 3 months [bigwhistle], and whilst the car was off the road, only just recently purchased (only allowed to drive the milk truck for work) I swapped out the 6 for an auto V8. It came out of a ZB Fairlane which had been worked, and I got the full interior from a ZD Fairlane except the dash, so really, just the seats [bighmmm].

When I came back onto the road, mates,,, who had visited me with the car being worked on right at the front door of the house,,, couldn't work out why I now went sooo fast,,, [bigwhistle] Damn that was a cool car,, I miss it probably more than the XA GT I had.

Old school Fords,,, is there really anything better,,,, I think not. [biggrin]

That takes me back Marcus, my first car was an XT although it was an auto, my mates all hated it cos it was way quicker than their twin-carb 186s. Second car was an XT GT. How I survived being an 18yo P-plater in that thing I'll never know. Wish I still had it though.

I had a metallic gold, XT Fairmont wagon fitted with a Cruisomatic behind the Windsor. That would have been impressive specs when new.

I learnt to drive in a 1980 ZJ Fairlane, said to be 1 of 4 - 351cu with a mild cam in it... Apparently 4 special order Fairlanes made for the company directors.

Dad took me out on a dirt road, and when it over-steered (corrugations and rear wheel drive V8 fun) he said: "You'll be fine as a driver - you steered into the skid instead of panicking"

I just remember having fun.. [bigsmile]

Yes they are , a bloke in the club is doing 1 up now , should be on the road in the next month he reckons , I am keen to see how it turns out.

All my mates had Sandman's in those days , but being a blue oval man I was glad to see Ford made atleast 1 model with the lift up tail gate .

This was a 1975 XB GT that was badged as a fairmont by a Ford dealer exec. Was owned by a mate's dad and was the tow vehicle for the caravan in the background in the first shot, the clutch had a flexible pipe that was prone to touching the extractors and bursting, we drove the GT through the suburbia of Orange with no clutch towing the Zephyr ute.
