Dam plastic cooling system parts. My disco has had a slight cooling system leak for a while, but I haven’t been able to find where it was until recently. It was leaking at the top hose into the engine. So I was just going to order the top hose, it all I could figure nd was the full thermostat hose set. Kinda glad that it comes wth the plastic connector into the water outlet - as soon as I put a little weight onto it to pull it off the plastic broke. See the attached pic. It really took very little effort to break and looks to be the source of the leak. From the look it wasn’t far from a complete failure.

A similar thing happened on my D2a, The 3 way plastic bit that feeds the water pump and heaters gave way.
Luckily I was at home when it went So No damage done.

All New stuff fitted now including water pump, Hoses and radiator [thumbsupbig]

For a bit of plastic these parts are pretty robust But like anything they all have a service life, What are the other cooing system components like?

Mines an 05 D3 with 265,000 km on the clock. Ok so while I'm in this thread of replacing coolant hoses, anyone have any ideas how access to the water inlet is possible? The replacement hoses I have is everything inside the highlighted area. I can get easy access to the water inlet down near the thermostat, but as far as I can see there is no access to the water inlet (which is also a plastic fitting as far as I've seen and theres a short section of rubber hose)

And there I was thinking the hose setup on my D2a was complex, The D3 setup looks like a bowl of spaghetti [bighmmm]

There is a plastic piece of the cooling system of the 2.7 that my indi replaces at 5yrs.

I don't know exactly which part it is,but i will be finding out in the next week.

It might be the same one I just replaced - the plastic arrangement that’s the outlet from both sides of the engine that feeds the top radiator hose. Known to split at its plastic weld.

I'll hang onto the spare bit of pipe and rubber elbow just in case - hopefully its not a job I ever need to do as it looks very tight
