I recently bought a 2008 TDV6SE and then drove it home - 1500 kilometers. I discovered it had lost 4 liters of engine oil which I have traced to somewhere under the throttle body. I have removed the oil filter and checked for leaks in the filter housing as well as replaced the seal but still leaking great quantities of oil in this area - any ideas where it may be coming from ? I am reluctant to start stripping unnecessarily. All suggestions most welcome-thanks

Oil cooler assembly has likely failed. Its what the oil filter screws onto.

Is that a common problem Justin.? surely that's not the only engine oil cooler , don't look big enough for a bike engine let alone a TDV6.

What is it sealed with a gasket or an O-ring ? or some crazy L/R design .

Thanks guys. Closer inspection revealed that the filter seal was the culprit ...phew. Thanks for the help anyway. As far as I know there is actually a gasket and an O ring that contribute towards sealing the oil filter body/cooler onto the top of the engine

So had it just been serviced?? Oil seal on the filter housing doesn't fail without human error🙄

4 litres, too close to empty for my liking.
Was nearly a very costly mistake.

Sorry - I am confused - that part number posted is for the gasket for the oil cooler - from what Justin has said you will only replace that if the oil cooler housing had issues - repair/replace if it is broke and is not part of the regular service regime.
Or are we actually talking about the big seal around the oil filter housing that screws into the oil cooler - you know the one you get with the oil filter when you buy it - it is a few inches in diameter, looks like a big O ring but is square in cross section and when in place the corners of the square cross section rather than the flats stick out to seal the outer oil filter housing. Was it this seal that was left off?
