Hi, has anyone here got a cfx75dzw waeco in a discovery 3?
We measured up and it looks like it would fit, so if anyone has tried, is it a goer?
Cheers James

In a similar scenario... fridge shopping... what is the biggest we can go.

I suggest you move the thinking to “what’s the most efficient” because those 75l and above Waeco chew battery power.

Not length ways with a cargo barrier it won't. You would have to put that fridge across the back, taking up the entire boot space. Whereas with the 65dz you still have half the boot free.
Depends what you have planned and your family size. I know I can fill the 65l and have enough cryovaced meat, veg and milk to live off for 10 days for 2 people with ease. Did this last year.
Also if I had that 75 I'd have to pack lighter, there's no way we could have fitted our 3rd passenger we picked up in Kununurra.
Food for thought, choose wisely! Remember if you go too big you're stuck with it.
Above photos you can see the CFX 65dz sits lengthways with 65mm spare, other side is up against the cage, if you have no cargo barrier you might fit it though! Again depends what you have planned, no camper trailer or caravan means a cargo barrier is a must IMO. As you will be struggling to pack the car safely without it. Look at the recent rollover video, the owner is happy the barrier was there that's for sure.
I'd say it will fit lengthways without a cargo barrier. Just did a measurement and you will have about 30mm up your sleeve.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180220/1570af4b34114fdafe45b42e9a6999a8.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180220/a9e75d6fde62e4f622a074dbabee11d1.jpg

We cryovac and can get sufficient food and milk for 2 weeks into a 55l
The difference is our Fridge Freezer will run 3 days where the Waeco (had one sold it) would run 1 1/4 for the same power consumption.

I have the CFX-65DZ on a removable slide base and cage - full thread here: Removable fridge slide setup (https://www.aulro.com/afvb/l319-discovery-3-and-4-a/213330-removable-fridge-slide-setup.html)
With careful packing we can feed our family of 5 for 10 nights plus from this and as Russrobe says, it fits nicely.
Depends on what type of cargo barrier you have too - some sit further back into the loadspace.

Interested to know which fridge you are running might assist the OP.....
I’m not in the market as I had to purchase on physical size and power usage was secondary.

Hmm, that's strange. I've never got less than a full 48 hours out of the CFX 65. I know the old CF models were much worse by comparison.
On average I get 3 days out of mine, in hot conditions over 40 degrees I get 2. Although we're hardly ever in the same spot for longer than 2 nights so it's never bothered me, by the time it's switched off i'm minutes away from starting the motor and leaving anyway.
Of course having some sort of solar power connected would make a significant difference and still work out much cheaper than some other models.

One thing i liked when i moved to the D3 was that now my 50ltr has plenty of room around it unlike the D1 where it would only fit once i cut a bar out of the barrier and removed the handles.
Russ, your CB seems to chew a lot of space. Once i have made a storage system i will be able to fit 2 x 10ltr water bottles between fridge and CB.

Yep, although I find it more useful to have that 200mm space in the front as i can stuff jumpers and towels up there for easy access. I also squeeze 5L of engine oil and 20l of water behind the fridge behind the fridge. I'm in the market for a water pump of some sort to run from the 20l can to a tap though...
I usually tie the maxtrax to the upper section of the CB and a table sits nicely against the lower section.
If it's just the wife and I though, the CFX 65 fits perfectly across 2 removed rear seats on top of a false floor (or even length ways with one seat folded flat). I only keep the fridge here if I've got the dog so he can stretch out. Another good thing about the 50l and 65l fridges, they fit everywhere!

Agree re the 2 weeks, we have a Bushman. And it is pretty low consumption.
However it wouldn't run for 3 days without any charging (crank + 55ah Optima with Traxide SC80)
Which fridge do you have Tombie?

It was an opportunity purchase - A Primus DZ 55... we run it at -10 and +2 and get 3 days without a problem...

Hi,
I've had my 110l in the back of the D3 sideways as in the fridge was sideways. Front of it was up against the rear seat and the back towards the tailgate . Took off the cargo blind thingymabob.
Plenty of room behind for the vents to breathe.
Had Arkpak 730 next to it. Weber Q 2000, 9kg gas bottle and other bits an pieces.

Pushed to the right hand side. I was still able to lift the left had seat. Bit of a test to see if I could have the fridge in there and someone in the back also.

We have a waeco pretty sure its a CFX 95 ? might be 90 , has the 2 separate compartments , it sits sideways across the back , plenty of room to put stuff behind it and to 1 side if needed.I actually prefer it like that as you lift up the tailgate and you access it straight away.
I have a 45 Ltr engel with the twozone that sits on top as well. its an oldie but a goodie.
I did have to install an extra battery under the bonnet , so like Tombie I have 3 batteries stashed in there.
Cheers Ean

Personally. I’d hold out a bit longer and go National Luna, Evakool or Trailblaza

Anybody with an Evakool 74l dual zone have an opinion?
I have a Waeco cfx 65 dz that will not fit in my newly acquired camper trailer.
Higher authority said I could buy a fridge to fit.
The Waeco 65 has been perfect for us. A couple of 6 weeks trips meals we’re supplemented by pub food and the occasional luxury stay but the fridge kept the beer cold.
I did get two days out of my dual battery (optima d34) at Indian head falls. The only thing it was running was the fridge.

Sorry miscommunication- I meant save a little more / spend a little more. Poor wording on my part.

I have a Snomaster Expedition Series 66l dual door fridge/freezer that fits nicely in the back of the D3. Both sections can be fridges or freezers (to -22C) or one of each. Have had it in the back of the D3 (all day parked no aircon) in the sun on a 43C day and the temps stayed at the set -10C and +2C. There is also an 88l model with the same footprint as the 66l just higher.

May I recommend the Adventure King's 60lReasons are, the unit is higher rather than longer, has a low current draw and is equipped with a high quality compressor. Let me know if you would like further details.

A mate and I bought one each last Thursday and took them both away for 3 nights. Very impressed so far but this is my first fridge so I'm just happy not to worrying about ice! https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2018/02/608.jpg

So just too sum up then, a 75 litre should fit without a cargo barrier, but could be problematic if I have one?

With something like the Travall barrier, (Travall® Guard for Land Rover Discovery 3/4 (2004-2016) (https://www.travall.com.au/index.php'main_page=product_info&cPath=428_456&products_id=13665) ) which is a lighter construction but doesn’t encroach as much into the load area as others, I think the 75l would fit.

FYI Shack, the cargo barrier I have, and was measuring from is an original Land Rover full size one, which i think were Milford branded.

How much bigger length wise is a 75 compared to 50 ? I have heaps of room between fridge and CB with my 50ltr waeco.

CFX50 and 65 have the same footprint 725 x 455
Height of 50 is 471
Height of 65 is 561
CFX75 dimensions are 887w x 495d x 472h
So 75 is 162mm wider (or longer depending on how you look at it) than 50/65...
and the 95 at 957mm wide (/long) is another 70mm.. and a little bit deeper again at 530mm

I've got an Adventure Kings 65L fridge (Danfoss compressor - it is a Waeco CF65 without the Waeco sticker). Love it. Installed it on a Dunn & Watson slide which I attached to a a large sheet of plywood covering the whole boot area (I had to install a large piano hinge on the ply so it could fold up to get it in/out. I also added a couple of coach latches to secure the ply to the most inward tie-down points in the boot)
Great fridge for the money ~$550. After my camp I had it running in the garage for over a month with zero issue.
What I do recommend however is a proper fridge thermometer. The readings the unit gives me vary +/- 2-3 degrees which is a pain when I run it at +2degC. I use this Primus unit PRIMUS WIRELESS FRIDGE DIGITAL THERMOMETER UNIVERSAL FIT WAECO ENGEL | eBay (https://www.ebay.com.au/i/152754301756?chn=ps) which is accurate (i know, because I calibrated it to zero with the freezing point of water) and convenient (wifi)
peace
Brian.
