I am hoping the brains trust here can help a member (Treerover) based in NZ with information on importing his 6x6 camper in to Australia in May 2018. He has asked me to post the question on his behalf.

He has done it previously about 8 years ago but does not have their info other than they were based Footscray. He is hoping to track them down and use them again because of the positive experience using them last time. He specifically liked that he was allowed to remove the vehicle from the container himself to perform the cleaning and then have it "bio inspected".

If anyone can shed any light on who he might have used previously or recommend other companies that were good to deal it would be much appreciated.

here's the info I have from him so far:

Hi SBD4,
I am shipping my LR 6x6 Camper over again in May in a high top container. Last time (about 8 years ago?) I found a freight forwarder in Footscray with a small yard where they would let me drive my truck out of the container myself, waterblasted it and got the biosecurity man in for inspection. It was all rather low-key and no hassles with over-the-top safety stuff!
I would like to find out if this outfit still exists and/or if any of you know or would be able and willing to find out about such a company please?
I have searched the internet far and wide but there are about 250 companies in the yellow pages alone and I don't know where to start?!
I would like to get in touch with some Melbourne-based LR fans who might be able to help?.
Thanks and happy days, Treerover.
PS. The plan is to drive to Coober Pedy via Adelaide and then into the desert, Gunbarrel, Canning etc. H.

Thanks SBD4,
yes, please ask on my behalf in the General Chat area as I am still learning how to navigate this site.
My truck will be on a Carnet de Passage again which is a passport for a vehicle and which makes importing relatively easy.
From memory the outfit I used last time was on a side street off Barkley Street (northern side) and only a short distance west of the river crossing. But it does not have to be there, any outfit that will let me into their yard to unload the vehicle myself would be fine, just needs a bit of ringing around which is much easier done locally!
Cheers and thanks for your help, Treerover.

I remember that yard. Used to pass it every morning on the train. Saw some interesting vehicles parked in the paddock.
I don't think that yard exists any more. The company may still exist but I would suspect it has moved if it does.

Thanks Mick, do you happen to remember the specific location (via google maps)? I might be able to track down the company name based on that to see if it exists today.

So will this be a permanent import or a temporary import and then take back to NZ? Procedures are different.

I would take from that, that it is temporary....
