There is a privately imported Tdi 110 locally with 1.4 million miles but I can’t remember if it was a 200 or 300 Tdi.

Someone told me awhile back that he did over a million kilometres in his Defender with a second engine.

This one has the original engine but has had a set of rings & bearing shells. The gearbox has also been rebuilt twice.
It depends on where you draw the line as eventually it’ll become a ‘grandfathers axe’.
Same with Irv Gordon’s 3 million mile Volvo.

Of course many trucks have done this sort of mileage...

I know of at least one, maybe two D1's kicking around here in WA with well over 1 million km's on them. My own D1 has less than 240000km on it, but my D3 has over twice that amount - 517,500km.

My 96 Disco has 293k on it and still uses no oil. And amazing, at present, it has no leaks! Don't know how long that will last though.

Mine under reads by 5km/h so that means I should add??
Oh and I found that if you drive in reverse the mileage decreases...

When I’m doing 100 by the speedo I’m actually only doing 90
And by the 5km speedo check south of tamworth the odometer is 1/2 a km more 5.5kms
Yesterday I put a yellow speedo drive instead of the blue haven’t tried it yet 10% more I believe
This is in a 130 tdi with 235/85/16 tyres

IIRC the odometer and speedo errors were different on the Tdi?
With new 235/85's the speedo was 8% out but the odo was only about 5% out?
255/85's corrected the speedo.
Anyway, my old Deefer only clocked up about 5000km in the last three years and it has over 330,000 when I sold it.
The new owner loves it, flicked me a photo with new ZU rims on it last weekend.

Yep , my 98 is also around the 32500 mark . All long trip kms , never used as commuter. However it has had two major rebuilds.

98 Tdi Defender 315000 - mostly hard bush kms in northern Australia and now some tootling around town. Going strong. Oil and filter every 5000 km. Replaced head gasket as a precaution at 200k. Nothing major (touch wood) except a failed turbo around 200k.

98 defender with just over 292,000. Lots of hard km. But only used for fun and towing now. Engine wise, the head came off at about 200k due to an injector fail. Had the bottom end bearings replaced last year as a precaution but they were still good and really not needed. However just about everything else attached to the engine has been replaced or rebuilt. Some things more than once. However I think it is more reliable now than it was in its fist 10 years of life.

Pleased to report my 1997 tdi disco has done nearly 61000 my near identical spare disco has done 280000. Drives like new. Needs an injector pump rebuild and windscreen so is an uneconomical project unless i wreck my good disco.

255/85's corrected the speedo.
.. .... ....
.
I would expect the odometer error to be almost the same on every one with standard tyres since it is just a matter of gearing in the equipment.
Speedo error could vary a lot since there are other variables involved.
However, mine are very close to yours ie 10% speedo and 4% odometer.
I would have thought that even if the speedo is out by 10% that most Defenders on standard tyres would only need 4% or 5% correction.

After putting the yellow speedo drive (22 teeth) in Ive had a chance to test the speedo but not the odometer 100 kmh is now reading pretty well bang on 100 instead of 100 really only being 90 with the original blue cog (20teeth)
The odometer on my 130 tdi big cab always read .5 km more over the 5 km test that I’ve done a few times, so I think both my speedo/Odometer were out 10%
There is a 21 tooth green cog that should be about 5% different to the blue cog

Given that my truck just clicked over 300,000kms plus that fact that I have had it just on 9 years, I thought I would give it some much needed attention, so I have done the following:
Changed the engine oil and filter (I do this every 5,000kms)
Replaced the fuel filter (i do this every 10,000kms)
Replaced the thermostat
Replaced the radiator cap
Replaced the viscous fan hub (it had been running 1 or 2 degrees hotter than normal)
Replaced the fuel lift pump gasket - the source of an annoying oil leak
Replaced the rocker cover gasket (thought this may have been a source of an oil leak)
Replaced the o'ring on the rocker cover breather (once again I thought this may have been a source of an oil leak)
Replaced the manifold gasket (there was evidence of black soot at the rear of the head)
Replaced both gearbox mounts (originals were sagged)
plus new tyres and a wheel alignment
Chased electrical gremlin in air-con system (loose connection at fuse block causing the compressor clutch to randomly cut in and out)
Gave the truck a wash
Lanotec'd the chassis.
Crickey....that was a lot of work...but rewarding.
