Active Hydraulic Suspension on 92 RR

Hi,
After someone with a bit of knowledge on 'active suspension'. l'm looking at a 92 RR that a guy has fitted a 4.8 'stroker' engine and hydraulic suspension. He says it's the best suspension available, enabling a 4wd to handle like a car on the road AND still lose no offroad ability. Now having never heard of this type of suspension l am interested in how this is possible - he was a bit vague - reliability of it - and does it work in real life. Appreciate the feedback. Sam

Could be an adaptation of the ACE system used on Disco II's?
(Active Cornering Enhancement)

Then there is another system called G-Force that operates on much the same pricinple. If it is G-Force then there would be a big control box with hoses coming out, somewhere in the engine bay. Either the box or the hoses are orange - look for a name/brand?

That would be the limit of my knowledge on the topic....

was an after market set up.

Is it possible its Kinetic Suspension from Busselton WA????
They did all their prototype work on coil sprung landrovers.Their system involved hydraulic rams replacing the coils/shockies,all computer controled.Have seen mag stories and a video clip,35deg sideslope and the body was level 8) 8) 8) 8)
They are still trading as I saw a hydraulic engineer (or something similar) position advertised a few months back

I remember reading some years back about a mob in WA experimenting with what they called an "active suspension system" worked with hydrolic rams and such.
Saw some amazing pics of awesome wheel articulation.

Kinetic was what came to my mind first too. They had a really good video of a Defender hurtling off road and then doing a witches hat slalem on road, on their web site, but last time I checked it was gone. They modified Unimogs and Hiluxes too. Dept. of Defence was looking into using the suspension, in the end they were bought out by a US firm.

If you buy it, post a schematic diagram of the set up and photos of the components, may be we could copy it :wink:

Hi everyone,
Finally got a chance to view the vehicle today - handles likes it's on rails. The system was fabricated by a hydraulics engineer in Sydney who has worked a lot in Europe with Citroen Racing. Very simple system using no electronics. Basically a hydraulic ram inside the coil is controlled by a simple pendulam weight mounted at the rear/side of the engine bay. As the vehicle begins to lean, the movement of the weight forces fluid into the opposit ram according to the force of the lean. At 100kmh you could throw this beast into a 45 degree turn and it would be flat. Felt like a go cart. Due to the simplicity of the system to turn it off you just fix the pendulam with a clip so it doesn't move and normal 4wd articulation returns. Great system, pity the rest of the vehicle was a mess.
