<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>Victorian driver stuck in reverse
Victorian police are expected to charge a Numurkah man after he reversed his car 48 kilometres along the Hume Highway between Wangaratta and Benalla last week.
The 23-year-old's car was found in Benalla after another motorist reported seeing it travelling backwards on the highway.
Police officers say the driver told them he was on his way home to Numurkah, a further 90 kilometres to the north.
He told the officers reverse was the only gear working in the car at the time.
The man was prevented from continuing on his journey and will be summonsed to appear in court later this year.
He is expected to be charged with reversing a vehicle further than necessary and several other offences.

I wonder what the other offences were  https://www.aulro.com/afvb/
There must be some other reverse gear stories about (or mexican jibes at least )

I think the neck muscles would be in disarray now

Hey Richard
Why would his neck muscles be sore?????
If you have decent mirrors no probs.Disco2 mirrors are poooo.
In my 6 wheeler quite often I have to reverse in Hi reverse for a Km or 2,at about 50kph,its very easy.Back out of my driveway in the Disco2,what a pain in the bottom, the left mirror may as well be smashed for all the good its worth,I found out why the first 3 vehicles flashed hell out of me when I passed, its one of those "the objects are closer" at least the Japs print it on the mirror.
If you have good mirrors and know how to use themthere is no reason you cant fly along in reverse.
I drove the other 6 wheeler at work last week, the driver backs off the road regularly and needs to be retrieved.Looking in the lhs mirror told the answer, you couldnt even see the back tyre and where it was heading. He thought I was a bit of a tosser when I pointed out his problem
Once you are comfortable with the mirrors and how to set them up (as long as the mirrors can be setup well DISCO2      ) I hope the Disco3 is better.

Yeah, I do reverse using my mirrors most of the time, but if I have to go any distance I tend to turn my head.
Andrew, interested in a Harvey trip in the next few weeks?

Not a bad effort, but if i was doing 50kph in reverse i wouldnt be trusting my mirrors, i would be getting a sore neck. I can use mirrors but wouldnt be confident enough at a high speed. Matt

I once reversed a mates HQ sedan for about 20km.
The gearbox or linkages jammed in reverse. We could select a forward gear but reverse was still engaged so the box would lock up.
He was going to walk home from the middle of nowhere rather than reverse it all the way back.
It was at about 1.00am so the roads were pretty quiet but we got a few strange looks https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ .
About 500m from home, the gearbox popped itself out of reverse & was right as rain after that :? .
I don't know about doing it on a Freeway though.

One of my favourite design features of the P38a Range Rovers (might only be the HSE) is that when you select Reverse the side mirrors automatically angle several degrees downwards so you can see the kurb.
Do any other Landy models have this ???

Heard this one from an ex cop .
He and partner were called to a robbery at the hotel on the Pacific Highway at Chatswood. The hotel had a U shaped driveway, and as they drove in one end in the cops car, the robbers reversed out the other end in a Jag XJ6.
Robbers drove away in reverse with cops pursuing. Robbers drove down Pacific highway and down Delhi road which is quite twisty and hilly in reverse with cops in hot pursuit sirens and all.
Finally the robbers hit the bridge over the creek at the bottom of Delhi Road and were captured.
Must have been a great sight to see.

Reminds me of a dearly departed friend, Hooter, had an old Toyota crown, reversed out his driveway one morning to come to work, went to drive off no forward gears, so he kicked the rear window out and drove to work in reverse https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ Miranda to Peakhurst

I was waiting for someone to question the ability of females in the reversing department .... glad it was you dullbird 8)
Reversing ability must have nothing to do with the ability to multi-task

thats right one iota
just to clear thing up reversing is a backward motion,,,,,,
and i think the reason some of us don't do it so well is women aren't backward
hence why we have good multi tasking abilitys https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

Well something similar
When you reverse the degree of vibration eases up a bit so you can actually see something out of them.

Have to agree with bushie on the vibrations.
As for driving in reverse. My step brother and I drove across Canberra in reverse one night during the summernats after his gear box blew. Only gear that worked was revers as long as you got it moving at 10kmh or faster. Great fun having to push an old fairlane and then jump in while it was moving. Also had to fill the box 3 times during the trip. That year at the nats we blew2 gearboxes and 3 rear diffs (All nine inch ones).

Ask NOZ how the two dents got in his Disco! Both done in reverse, one was a bbq and the other a fence. Note to self, don't park behind NOZ, especially in the dark.

My mates panelvan used to do that all the time.
Anyone watch 'The New Inventors' tonight?
Had a funky trailer reversing system.

Hi Richard
Probably not, just spent a heap of $$$$ of stuff for a service before going to Esperance at easter, getting the local mechanic to do it as we are working long hours and the hoist at work is broken        .Would do it myself but with 2 pinion seals,TD5 oil pump drive check, rear donut replacement, new oil in diffs/gearbox/transfercase/motor its just as easy to get it done with a mechanic with a hoist.
Get onto Reads90,apparently he has just left Esperance heading for Kal,he would be a visiting AULROian worth meeting.

I reckon he should argue that it was necessary, he wasn't able to go forward.
