I was looking at the ACCC air bag recall list on news this morning , there are # Honda motorcycles on the list:lol2: When did they start fitting air bags to motorcycles . I know I do not know much about motorcycles but what is different about these motorcycles that they need air bags? May be I should read all the article & there is another issue with motorcycles [bighmmm]

The Honda Goldwing is essentially a Buick on two wheels! If you hit something you've got an awful lot of dashboard and fairing to carve yourself up on.

Chapter 11 Bankruptcy filed last year. However, new owners Key Safety Systems may find themselves having to stump up. Honda is in the frame as well, as authorities believe they have known about the airbag issue for years but failed to act.

LR is definitely on the North American list. Takata had 20% of the market, so it's likely that some LRs would have their product.

I checked the ACCC and Product Safety lists and LR is not on it - yet on the lists shown on TV LR was there - I wish they would get their act together.

Millions of Australians ordered to have deadly airbags removed from their cars
Airbag recall: Millions of Australians ordered to have deadly defects removed - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) (http://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-02-28/takata-airbag-compulsory-recall-to-affect-2.3-million-vehicles/9491766)
Land Rover is being added to the list, but the details of which LR vehicles are affected aren't on the list yet.
This story contains a link to the current list. I think our Mazda 2 is affected.
If your vehicle has an ALPHA version of the Takata airbag and the airbag goes off there is a 50% chance it will fire shards which could kill you. Twenty people have already died. The advice for people with an ALPHA version of the airbag is to park and don't drive it until the manufacturer replaces the airbag, so that's serious.

This is old news except now they are going to force manufacturers to action instead of dragging their feet, and Honda have been replacing the air bags in bikes for about 12 months - i do the customs clearance for Honda spare parts at work.

Reading of stories now of people who have had their defective Takata airbags replaced under a previous voluntary recall are now caught up again in the compulsory recall because the defective air bags were just replaced with the same defective Takata air bags.:eek2:
Looks like deliberate acts to mislead / dodge responsibility under the previous voluntary recall by some.
ACCC chairman Rod Sims said people who had already replaced airbags under the voluntary recall last year would need to check again to see if their car was listed on the new recall.
This is because in some cases, faulty Takata airbags were replaced with like-for-like, which only delayed the risk of the airbag exploding.

they aren’t trying to dodge the problem. But what’s wrong is there aren’t enough new air bags available around the world to replace all the ones needed. The airbags only become faulty after some time passes. So some manufacturers are putting the old type, but new, airbags in to give them a bit of time to get hold of proper replacements

Rolls Royce or Maybach perhaps, but neither could out perform or offer the thrill factor of a 'Wing.
Airbags have been optional, on Goldwing motorcycles, for about ten years.
Recall for GL1800 Goldwing airbags (https://www.aulro.com/afvb/motor-cycling/258032-recall-gl1800-goldwing-airbags.html)
We got a recall fr the Paj. When we responded to book it in, we were told to ignore it as it would be recalled again for the other side. It was returned in response to the second notice, when both 'bags were replaced. The parting comment from the dealer was that it would be recalled again, as the replacements were also defective.
This was last year, when the car was under five years old.

Land Rovers are being added to the list. LR has to supply a list of the VINs by early April, according to the story I linked to earlier.
Not a problem for Defender owners of course, since we are airbag-free.
Good news is I rang the dealer today and our Mazda2 is not on the list of affected VIN numbers. Apparently letters are being sent to the owners of affected vehicles.

Specific models have not yet been advised.

JLR and others are being added to the list.
In some cases airbags have already been replaced once, but with the same faulty airbags, so it has to be redone with corrected airbags.
We seem to have multiple threads on this airbag issue. These questions have already been answered elsewhere. Maybe they should be merged?

Maybe if the mods put all the airbag posts in the one thread where the LR aspect has already been discussed it might be clearer.
No LR is not on the current list but is being added to it - the list will not be finalised until April.

That was my take on it too. The recently manufactured, old design bags are safe for a few years. So, better being able to drive than not at all if you were left waiting for the production run of new 'completely safe' bags to come into the market.

Have you seen a lot of Honda CRVs on tilt trays recently?
No they have not been mating with LRs😍
The buy back is in full swing now and due to Honda being unable to retrofit new air bags to a number of older cars. Other brands are also similarly affected and are looking to buy back unrepairable cars.
Mates low k CRV was picked up the other day. He was offered a low ball 3k for it but haggled and settled for a few hundred more.
Towie said it will be crushed in days..as he is as it has been in the family since new and has never ever broken down despite being driven hard by all the kids!
What to buy now that will be as good...even Honda's standards have fallen in recent years?
