P38A Sunroof Parts

I've been repairing my sunroof for a couple of weeks (the rest of the roof was with the upholsters) using the Greek-made Ebay repair kits - sanding, sanding - as one of my sliders was broken, but when I was testing the functions one more plastic part cracked and it isn't one that can be replaced or repaired from the kit. Moreover, I'm sure that the rails only sell as a complete set, on each side, if any are still available.

Does anyone have a spare sunroof, or driver's side rail/set, or the specific plastic part that traps the cable using two pk screws on to the rail (if you understand what I mean)? This happened tonight so I'll take a better photo tomorrow in daylight, but I thought I should start this early.

I have a spare sunroof at home but I’m unsure on the bits you need. I haven’t really studied the sunroof or had much to do with pulling them apart.

I can have a look at it for you and see if I’ve got the bits? Is it a decent job to get the parts out?

Thanks Keithy. At the moment I would prefer to not ask you to strip your sunroof just for the one part shown below as I haven't yet asked any wreckers for a price for a whole working sunroof, but if many may have broken rails so this part may be relatively cheap (unlikely, I know). If your sunroof is like mine (Thor) and is out of the car, the part can be released by removing the glass panel and the two screws holding this cover, so it's not complex once you've do it 5 or 6 timeshttps://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/icons/icon12.png.

The problem for me is that I don't know why this part broke this time as I've moved it several times before using the motor via the cable, and it didn't break it before, so ..... I know that the motor and the cables can generate a lot of torque/force and the slides break when the grease dries out. Others in the US and UK have dealt with these kits before and I made the slides loose rather than tight when they were sort of copied or made, so I don't think these parts are this issue. They worked manually and automatically before I buttoned this up finally - and then this happened. I'm told this is character development.

If any of you had kept any parts from another rail and built up one from two, then this part is what I'm after at the moment. If any have a whole spare driver's side rail assembly than I would prefer that rather than ship a very heavy sunroof assembly as the glass and frame is unlikely to be needed.

Easily fixed with the following procedure:


Get the sunroof into the closed position any which way you can.

Get Nanocom or equivalent.
Turn off sunroof.
Sorted.




I do it before anything breaks though.

Yeah, thanks Scouse ... most of the time I'd agree but I'm just too stubborn to give it up, yet. I've found a functioning sunroof (did I mention I'm cheap too) but it isn't and it's more than 350km away. I'll wait for a while as I can fit my broken one back in while I can still drive the RR.
