My 2.7 D3's battery has just died I think. Had the radio on for not long and it wont start the car now it's sitting around 10v, did the same thing the other day had fridge running for only 15 mins and car wouldn't start, but charged up ok and started the car fine until today.
I have a couple of option. Currently has a DIN92L battery, I've found two or three on sale at Autobarn and will buy one in the morning.
One is a Supercharge SilverPlus SMF85L 760CCA with 30mth warranty, measures up like it will fit ok. $164
One is a Supercharge GoldPlus 810CCA 40 mth warranty, $259
One is Supercharge GoldPlus 900CCA 36 mth warranty $269
I guess they'll all fit and do the job, but the cheaper one is tempting, great price at $164....

If you RTM you’ll see there is a minimum CCA for the D3 and the cheapie doesn’t come close!

Thanks Tombie that’s all I needed to hear, I’ll chuck the 900CCA at it tomorrow!😀

Check the alternator isn't the problem. we replaced the battery then found out it was the alternator that wasn't working properly. The other battery sat in the shed for a year then gave to another family member where it is working fine in his 100 Series LC.

I assume the alternator is fine, it's putting out 14v or more when running.

Here’s the battery that’s in it, perfect physical size and it states 735 cca. Makes me wonder about the cheaper one again with 760cca as this one was obviously doing a fine job for years previously.

Or was it? How long have you had it?
What date is stamped on the battery?

Some listings have smaller batteries - no doubt to attract unsuspecting mugs.
You need a calcium or AGM over 900CCA and 90Ah. The original batteries were calcium but I believe LR later changed the specs to a AGM (but dont quote me on that)

Good move...
These vehicles (and most others actually) are not an item to skimp on the quality of the components you use. [emoji6]

Back at the start of last year my battery just failed overnight (right as I was due to drive to Perth too if I recall) with no warning signs what so ever. Knowning this town if I was a betting man I would have put my left testicle on having nothing suitable available in town. Good thing I didnt take that bet as I would have lost the teste (got 4 kids I can afford to lose it anyway[biggrin]). The rangers have a similar battery - DIN85L so there was one in stock - dosent quite have the grunt as the previous one @780CCA (century battery) but its still going strong with no noticible difference to cranking speeds at this stage. The battery is nearly the same as dimensions as the previous one, just 10 or 20mm shorter (im sure from memory the one I removed was a DIN92)

I put a Varta Silver Dynamic AGM 595 901 085 in my D4 2.7 a couple of years ago, I think it is rated at 850A. No issues with it whatsoever, but a lot more expensive than the other suggestions above.

Can I throw a curve ball into this discussion.
When I had my J**P Wrangler diesel a few years ago, it came from the factory with an Optima yellowtop (D95 I think).
Not sure of its capacity, but it lasted the 4 years before I sold it.
How come no one suggests Optimas for the Disco's???

My Defender came with a big Varta so that's what I replaced it with. Bigger the better!

Optima's dont have a higher enough ah rating for D3/4.

Odyssey in the primary. Optima in pos 2 & 3.
You won’t fit the D31 into the main area...

is ah really that relevant for a cranking battery though?

For these vehicles it is, the OEM battery in mine is rated at 92AH.

Not so much... the cca is important on Calcium/Lead batteries.
The pulse current on the Optima/Odyssey more than exceeds the required rating.
However they do chew a bit in standby so a decent AH doesn’t hurt [emoji6]

Until the battery gets a bit older looses a bit of reserve and demands from the car are high like starts on a cold -5 morning.
My old OEM battery which was 8 yo when I replaced it, was still outputting 12.8v but CCA was down from its 950CCA to 350CCA - on cold mornings it would still start the car but only on first or second crank - if it didn't fire I had to wait a little while before trying again.
The OEM specs are there for a reason.

Garry Actualy looking at the recept the battery is 5 yrs old , (time flys as you get older ) The original battery lasted for 6 yrs before it started to give all sorts of messages on start up and the Centuary DINN 85l has lasted 5 yrs and is going strong , so i cant complain if it dies tommorow , the handbook book says replacement battery is 90a mine is 85a the best i could get at the time in the bush , does not say anything about 900cca . God forbid if it ever got to -5 in Perth the Sunshins state .

Can anybody confirm that the SuperCharge GoldPlus Battery MF88H-900CCA fits / is suitable for a D3 TDV6?
