I don't have and don't want to get a subscription to Topix but I would like to know if there are any software updates available to my car? It's an MY16 D4 TDV6 and I have had it serviced at an Independent since I bought it 2 years ago so I'm sure there have been updates since then. I've had a look on Topix and at every step is wants me to subscribe. Do I just take it to a dealer and they do it under warranty or is there more to it than that?

Find some one with an IID or RRC2 tool and read the vehicle.

Dealers won’t upgrade software unless there is a link between the software and the client “issue/complaint”...

I've got an IID but how do I compare it's software version with that of Topix? I can't see a version list on Topix.

Just run the ECU report and read your file it generates.
It will tell you if updates are available.
