Hi guys- new to forum. Try to do most things myself but need a mechanic to chase a noise in the engine bay of my 2002 td5 defender - anyone know of a good LR mechanic in the Ballarat area?
Thanks in advance...

Sean from British Auto Parts (formerly RoverParts) may be able to help.
I noticed they’ve changed their address to Bayswater though.

A guy called Alex who’s in our club there is a good one - lives out Sebastopol way - I’ll see if I can find his number for you.

JcHey mate, can only describe it as a dry bearing kind of noise - noise is magnified with bonnet closed. Clutch operation doesn't change noise. Does change with engine revs but a little hard to tell with other normal td5 engine noises plresent. Tried sprey lube on drive belt idler and tensioner bearing merely for diagnosis purpose but no change.
Ideas?

Main suspects are fan support bearing, main belt idler and belt tensioner. Remove the belt and try with engine running to eliminate ancilliaries
