Hi,
Bit stumped, as I cannot find this item anywhere.
The seal sits under the threaded 'cap'
Help please on where to look. I need Two.
Thanks

I don't think that is what he is looking for. He is looking for the felt washer in the sliding joint on the prop shaft. It does not have a separate part number in the manual. If anyone finds a source, I want to know! (The one I made is not working too well)

Hello from Brisbane.
I had the same problem a few weeks ago - you won’t find it in the parts catalogue. It basically isn’t there.
The original propshaft slider has a cork washer and a split flat metal ring holding it in place under the screw cap. This has been replaced by a neoprene washer which doesn’t need the split ring although you can fit them.
I went to Hardy Spicer here in Brisbane and the guy behind the counter quickly sorted it out with new neoprene washers. They are fairly cheap and simply stretch over the spline to go into place on the shaft. Hardy Spicer made the OEM shafts - at least on my truck.
Cheers,
Neil

Sorry, I should learn to read twice, post once, a bit like a carpenter...
Actually, I am now interested in the answer too, as just about to take mine apart. So, I'm off to Hardy Spicer it seems....

John,
Hello from Brisbane.
As per the posted response immediately after yours - the replacement seal/washers are readily available through Hardy Spicer - and presumably any other outlet specialising in automotive drive shafts. They were a stock item in Brisbane.
The original cork washers that were supported by a split flat washer typically disintegrate when the prop halves are separated. So, these have been replaced by a neoprene washer that is very simple to fit.
Probably someone in Dubbo would have them.

Neil

I've sourced them locally.
A polymer 'seal', well a thick washer, with a lip both sides. Come with a new threaded collar.
If I get time I could get some & deliver at Cooma.

See you in Cooma!
John,
Hello from Brisbane.
If Colin hasn’t got time to get the seals before Cooma I could probably pick up a set here locally at Hardy Spicer and bring them down to Cooma.
They are as he described, a washer with sealing faces. A set of two costs around $20.

Neil

John,
Hello again.
Will do.
Hardy Spicer will be closed now for the weekend - so, I will call them on Monday to sort something out.
My understanding from when I picked up a set a few weeks back was that they should be a regular stock item.
I don’t know if the split washer is available new, but understand that they aren’t necessary with the new type of seal. They gave me a couple that had come off an old propshaft that had been repaired.
Cheers,
Neil

Yes, I can do that when I check them on Monday.
The number may also be on the sales docket from when I bought them a few weeks ago. I will see if I can dig it out later today.

The one's I can get come with the threaded cap for about $15 but there is a very, very limited supply. I have put some into 'stock' but will get some for John hopefully on Monday.
Those split steel washers are a PITA when they have been half dragged through the cap, hammer them flat and you can see what happens in the link below. Managed to re-shape them but took a while.

Colin,
Hello from Brisbane.
There probably isn’t a lot of point in us both chasing these seals for John. Are you planning to get them to take to Cooma or should I still be chasing them up from Hardy Spicer on Monday? Happy to do it but if you have it in hand already well and good.
The seals from Hardy Spicer don’t necessarily come with the threaded cap and a pair cost me about $20 from memory - still looking for the invoices. The metal retaining washer is pretty flimsy and easily broken as we both discovered, but I was told that they really aren’t required for the updated seals - more to stop the original cork seals from falling apart.
Cheers,
Neil

Hello again from Brisbane.
The part number (from Hardy Spicer’s in Richlands) is DCK 30A. This is a set for one shaft with the seal and the threaded cap and costs ~$9. As noted before the split washer isn’t included with the new seal type.

Neil

Hello again.
I went to Hardy Spicer this morning to pick up a couple of seals for John.
As posted on the previous post above this one - the part ‘normally’ comes as part of a kit with the seal and threaded cap and costs about $9.
They were out of stock on that kit today.
I noted ‘normally’ because the counter guy gave me two from the workshop stock which now have John’s name on them. These were handed over gratis because he reckoned it would cost more to run up an invoice than it was worth. They did much the same the other day for me other than that they charged me $20 but threw in a couple of used caps and the split washers.
Cheers,
Neil

I collected a couple for John yesterday.
They are old stock and were $5.50 for seal & cap.
John, I’ll put them in the Series I, should be in Cooma late Thursday.

Hello from Cooma.
Seems that it became a bit of a silly race to get the washer/seals to Cooma for John. More than needed, in fact.
So, if you still need them and it would soften your pain a bit you can send me a PM with your postal address and I will mail a pair to you when I get home.
Cheers,
Neil

Hello again from Cooma.
Forgot to ask - do you need the threaded caps?
Unless you have totally f____ed the originals they should be OK. However, I have a pair of used caps that I can include in the package if you need them.
