Yeah. I haven't flown them for some years either.

i flew a RC plane one.
i was doing some hacking and came across a server named MH370. I was able to take control. i tired to do a loop da loop but it didnt work. my bad.

i used to fly control line, RC fixed wing and helicopters, raced electric RC cars (not off road type so), raced RC model boats (multi boats, not hydros - multi boats have to be able to turn left and right). I was in the Sydney Society of Model Engineers.
I still have everything but my radio gear would need to be updated. I've been thinking about getting back into it. I have several unbuilt fixed wing kits.

I used to only fly Glowplug & petrol but since Ive built an Electric Landy I thought I better go all electric with the models too , so much better - no noise , no mess .
Things have really changed in the 18 years I've been out of it. For example Radio Gear , so cheap now . I bought a Turnigy i6 ($100 delivered) , never heard of the brand a month ago but its right across the hobby now, that radio has more, way more, features & easier to use than my old high end Futaba computer radio. You can even see the Rx voltage on the screen.
And that plane Im flying (well attempting to fly) made from EPP & carbon , complete with battery in flying trim 240g - amazing.

I've had an electric glider for years. It'll need new batteries. That's the problem with electric, the batteries have a short servicable life. I need new batteries for the monster truck as well.
And I need new servos for the AX5.
New batteries for the radio gear as well. It's been a long time since I've used the Futaba J series and a long time since I used the JR 9X.
I've got a lot of kits to be assembled too. I must finish that Tiger Moth so I can move onto the Big Eagle. I've also got a kit in an unlabeled box under the Stearman. Can't remember what it is.
I just love the glow fuel motors. Especially the four strokes. I have an Enya 40fs new in box for the Tiger Moth and an OS 52fs new in box for the Stearman. The slow, gentle aircraft are so much more a pleasure to fly.

I haven’t really done the research but the thread reminds me of a youthful bucket list item. If memory is correct there was a balsa and paper series of kits that either used rubber band or .020 c I Cox glow plug engine. I think primarily free flight as rc was too costly. Would these still be available?

IIt's been a long time since I've used the Futaba J series
My first helicopter specific radio was a Futaba 5JH. I still have it but it would need new batteries.
I also still have the Taipan 2.5cc diesel (with built plane, control lines, and a Granville model flying club membership) I was given by one of Dad's friends when I was 10 years old. The engine is the same as this one:

I had a compression diesel motor. Never used it. I got it in a box of discarded items. It was as new in box.
I eventually sold it to a fellow who would make better use of it.

I built a plane with a .020TD in it.
139074
20" wingspan.
Got a smaller one with a .020 pee wee somewhere. It was too heavy. Under power it flew but when the engine stopped, it dropped like a brick.
I think I might have a .010TD motor somewhere too.

Where they the plastic kits or balsa and paper ?
When using the larger .049 control line planes I used to get free fuel . My father was able to source the materials and mixup good size batches for me. So I was able to add an extra fuel tank to the plane and fly ( annoy the neighbors) longer.

It was a design published in an old RCM&E magazine. Originally designed for a .049, I scaled it down for a .020.
The original design was for use with a single channel radio. Push the button once and the rudder moved right. Push the button twice and the rudder moved left.
None of this modern proportional stuff.

Talking of old radio systems, I have a Controlaire Galloping Ghost system here. I should put it on eBay - along with my OS Pulse Jet (never been used).

Never been used!
They were a nice thing. The last one I saw was in a control line model made out of sheet steel.
Bit of an effort on a bike pump to get it going, though.
Now, there's a project for you. A r/c V1. Scale, of course.

I saw one fly C/L once at the Sydney Society of Model Engineers (I used to be a member). By heck, it was quick.

I really need to sell all my engines (some have never been used) including the pulse jet.
I even have a couple of these Taipan 3.5cc engines, unused:
139079
There's also a OS61 heli engine, still in the Graupner Bell 202 mechanics kit unused - like this: Bell 212 (http://www.vrhc.co.uk/index.php/graupner/bell-212)
When I croak, my daughter said she'll just get a skip in and dump everything in the garage including my lathes, table saws, radial arm saw, drill press, MIG and stick welders, ham radio gear, test equipment.

You have made it sound simpler than it actually was.
A rubber band connected to the rudder was twisted to provide torque to move it. If you didn't put in enough twists, you would lose control before the end of the flight.
The rubber band could only twist the rudder control in one direction, so each press of the button moved the rudder through a sequence of steps. It went centre, right, centre, left, centre, right, centre, left, centre ......
So if you had right rudder and wanted to go left, then two presses were needed as you said.
However, what you didn't mention was that if you went right and then centre and wanted to go right again, it was three presses to cycle through left, centre, right.
I was always impressed that a plane like that with single channel control of the rudder, but no elevator control could do a loop.

Your daughters loss.
My family are the same. When I turn toes up, the 101s, trailers, Perentie etc will probably go to scrap. Their loss. Silly them for not realising they are probably worth more than the Mercs.

One of my helis - Hirobo Iroquois with a .40 engine. Pic taken in 1981 according to the date stamp on the slide. Radio, Futaba FP-5JH heli set.
I still have the Iroquois and the radio.
EDIT: Jeez, the upload has screwed the image quality!
