Hi all,
I’ve been in the market for a defender for a few months now, checking out one or two a week as they’ve come up for sale.
Today I checked out a very nice 2007 puma with 120,000 on the clock. The car has been fitted with a bunch of extras (aux. tank, bull bar, roof rack, spot lights front and rear, winch, compressor, 2way radio, trailer brakes, shelving etc.), and the dealer is asking $39,500.
I’m ‘okay’ with the price (yes I know what they cost new) and was happy to see no signs of rust/corrosion in the common defender areas.
The car has obviously been places with all the extras fitted, though it does seem to be in the upper end of condition compared to the 10 or so defenders I’ve driven.
I’m serious about the car. My question to you all is are there any red flags or things I should look for on the first MY of the puma defender?
Feel free to check out the car on car sales - We've taken a wrong turn (https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/Land-Rover-Defender-2007/OAG-AD-15839727)
Cheers,

All I can say is I have the first 07 delivered in Qld, it’s at 155K, never let me down and I still love it. I had all the mods done over the years though, from new sump pan, new brake vacuum pump etc and had all the campaigns/recalls attended to. Never had the diff issues others did, nor any other dramas. What minor things went wrong we’re all fixed and remain good.
Mine really is a freak. It’s still perfect. Doesn’t leak oil, doesn’t use oil, gets 9-10l per 100km. Been across every state and territory, and crossed all of this country’s deserts. Top end, Kimberleys......you name it, done it. I’ve been very pleased with mine and it’s a truck for life, a genuine keeper. Shannon’s upped its value to 40K last year which blew my socks off!
I had a Bruce Davis remap done and I recommend that as a good upgrade.
Take it to a Land Rover specialist, have them check it out, and if good go for it. These vehicles are going up in value now, not down.

Thanks for your reply mate. Glad to hear your car has been issue free - I picked mine up today!
I got it checked over by a local LR mechanic here in Perth. All in all it is in great condition, and he previous owner looks to have spent money in all the right places.
I am stoked!!

Great news and good work brother! Enjoy the hell out of it, these trucks are keepers, will last forever if you look after ‘em. Don’t forget to wave to other Defy and Series Rovers man, it’s a code.

Do u know what the performance increase was through Bruce Davis? Is it similar to the BAS ones?

Yeah mate it is. Can’t recall the exact numbers cos it was done years ago now. The BD map I have came with the TD5 Alive interface unit so I can reflash original tune or accept updates if need be.
Call MR automotive (google is your friend) and ask for Warren. He can provide details for the BD map. It’s pretty sweet, also it bypasses the EGR setup (as does the BAS map) which is another major bonus.
