Continental Crosscontact AT tyre dead

My continental crosscontact AT 235/85r16 has a sidewall hole and cant be repaired.
The defender has only done 30,000kms and I want to replace the tyre with the same type.

A quick search on google leads me to believe that the Crosscontact is not available in Aus anymore!

1. Anyone know if they are still available?
2. Whats my best alternative if its indeed not available?
3. Does anyone (in Melb) have some they want to sell?

...what do you mean 'for the $$$'? A more expensive tyre would be better? or just that it's really good value?

I've had them on for 11 months, done 14k kms & still very happy with their performance & wear.
They felt a little bit different to the old Contis at first, but didn't take long to get used to them.
At $210/tyre fitted, I think they're good value, as I was left with quite a bit in my bank account compared to other brands.
Are there better tyres around? Sure, but this is on a Defender, not a high performance sports car.[wink11]

I believe that when the Defender stopped production Conti dropped the 235/85R16, pity as its a great tyre.

Ive just bought a set of these except they were the MT's. 5 for the price of 4 - seem OK so far but I haven't done many k's. Time will tell if they are any good but they look good. I paid $1,240 for 5 tyres ($248 ea)

I note in all this no one has mentioned the Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac tyres - these look like a mid point between ATs and MTs. Has anyone tried them?

I’m interested in these too. A mate’s been running them on his Colorado, including a desert trip and Cape York, and is very happy with them.

I’m just about up for replacing the Contis and am tossing up between the Duratracs and BFG KO2s - or something completely different.

They look good, but a bit chunky for me and very expensive!

I did my google research and in the end ordered 1 x Yokohama Geolander as my spare.
Once my Conti's run out I'll buy 4 x Geolanders G015.

I paid $273 fitted, it gets fitted on Wed.

I reckon you'll like them if you do mainly gravel/sand hwy work.
Massive grip in the wet(tarmac).
I have the earlier GO12's .. I'd expect that the newer model will have some additional advantage.
Not so good on muddy tracks tho .. I get too much sideways slip .. but keep forgetting to take into account their intended purpose. Not deep muddy hard yakka type tracks, I'm talking about 1" deep muddy tracks.
Don't really trust them for hard yakka mud(which I prefer to avoid anyhow!).
My only complaint with the GO12 is the level of road noise considering the tread pattern .. comparing to many other A/T tyres I've had on other cars, brother's KO2's and then not too long ago was taken in Young Angus's D1 with Duratrac muddies.

KO2's a much quieter, and even the Duratrac MT's are quieter than my Yokos!

But! that's not a negative point of view tho. I'd still recommend them due to how well they drive on sand and in the wet.
Would still consider a set of the GO15's at the right price.
So I reckon you'll be happy with a set.

I always found (or thought) that the Yokohama Geolander was a really quite tyre, a lot of customers have them on their Discovery 3s.
I first put them on my Pa's Defender 130 TD5 (not that you particularly notice quite that much) and since then plenty of Defender TDCi models.
For an AT tyre they seem to perform really well on the black and great in the sand.

The BF Goodies in the AT are a very tough side wall tyre, great up north WA, but are lacking in the sand due to their tough not very flexible side wall.

I figure in WA 90% of our driving is on the tarmac and the last 10% is sand.

I've had a great run out of the Contis too. Over 82000k and still in good shape with no rotations in that time.
FWIW, Just fitted some Falken Wildpeak M/T. 235/85/16. The local tyre dealer had a 4 for 3 offer, which helped with the price. Quieter on road than I thought they would be. Possibly quieter than the aged Contis. Significantly lower cost than BFG, etc.

I recently fitted a set of 235/85R16 Kumho AT51’s, which were the closest I could find to the Conti’s tread pattern. Not sure how long they’ll last, but seem ok so far in the wet and on gravel. $260 each.

Update!

I replaced all tyres with the Yokohama G015.
The handling and noise on tarmac is great.
I got them from BobJane, also includes free puncture repair lifetime (I think) and some sort of guarantee that should there be an irrepairable tyre after puncture that its at least subsidised. (Good insurance).

I thought the Contis were good, these are better.

The only negative so far is the blokes at BJ said 38psi, so the rides a bit harsher.
