Took Bluey (1999 Td5 auto) for a run around the back roads to check for leaks and squeaks. A few squeaks, but thankfully not a lot of leaks. [biggrin]
Missus followed in the Limo, and reported that every time I put my foot down, there was a "fair bit" of black smoke emitted.
Has a new air filter, but I haven't cleaned the sensors yet. Going to pull all the inlet piping when I get back from out west, clean sensors, check hoses and joints, etc and probably hit Mario up for some silicon hoses.
Also thinking that, since most of our planned usage for this car will involve fairly big kays on bitumen and dirt, I might as well do all the suspension bushes while I'm at it. I have some bushes and things (from D1 and Deefer) but tossing up about OEM type vs Super Pro. Only disadvantage I can see with OEM type is the need for pressing in/out.

.....

I'm pretty sure that's about normal.
Is it chipped/tweaked too.

Every Tdi and TD5 I've noticed(incl my Tdi and brother's TD5) all emit a puff of black smoke initially on acceleration, which disappears pretty quickly, about 1-2sec, as turbo boost then builds up.

No chip - still got the old ECU in it, and I have no history for the last 5-6 years. Prior to that it was regularly serviced, first at the dealer, then at indy workshops up to about 260K, now has 310K.
