Thought might be worth posting from a UK Forum.

Started fitting the wheel cylinder. No nuts supplied with the replacement. Given everything anywhere near the wheels corrodes severely and they are an imperial size this is quite annoying.

Eventually find four nuts and tighten the new cylinder on using a small half Inch spanner. With a tiny amount of force the Stud stripped right out of the cylinder.

Needless to say this is a britpart cylinder. On inspection the stud isnt a stud. Its not actually threaded onto the cylinder Just shoved onto a three mm deep hole.

This is absolutely disgraceful. This is a safety critical part. I thought britpart stuff was improving but they should frankly be brought up on charges for this. It can't possibly pass any safety standards.

To be clear, that's not a snapped stud. The slight marking at the end was just where I gripped it to remove the nut. The hole it goes into is perfectly flat and looks like it was cast like that and there are no threads. The cylinder I took off was threaded down about three quarters of an inch.

I have melted old wheel cylinders in my furnace when doing casting and the studs which have been fished out of the crucible, all had a Tee-heads on them so that they could never pull out,

So when it comes to purchasing parts what was the lesson?

Which UK forum was that on ? I'd like to see the follow-up and any response from Britpart as I'm about to install Britpart slaves myself.

Cheers,
John

So when it comes to purchasing parts what was the lesson?Buy all the parts you're after from Roverlord. They have so much experience with various aftermarket parts, and seem to know which brands to steer clear of in relation to certain parts.

Haven't had problems with Britpart/Bearmach in the past, might just be a one-off.
I guess from what Charlie said that they put the T-headed studs into the mould and cast so someone inserted a stud with no T-head. Not acceptable but these sort of things happen in mass production, more-so with cheaper parts

With companies like Paddocks you can select a brand (Delphi or TRW) instead of Britpart, more expensive but I guess you get what you pay for.

This weekend I installed two Britomart slaves, no problem at all. Although I have tried other Britomart parts I wasn't impressed with like tie rod ends that trusted in about a month.
