View Full Version : Seat belt pillar cover....

ProjectDirector

Very often when off road both myself and front passenger knock our heads on the seat belt bolt located on pillar.
A while ago I watched part of the movie The Queen and noticed the defender had a cover on the bolt.

Any ideas if I can source this?

Cheers

It hurts so much when that happens - I remember my wife in tears!

Following this thread in anticipation

its just a standard fitting on most modern cars, suggest you try a car wrecker. they just click over the bolt, no need to even undo it.

Something that looks like it is shown in this diagram, but no part number

In fact if I get time today will drop in at local wrecker and sniff around

Those bolts scare me. They hurt enough hitting them bouncing around off-road, I'd hate think what they could do in an accident.

My solution was to put a bit of roll cage padding on the top of the B pillar so that you can't hit them. You still feel it when you hit, but nowhere near the pain from hitting the unprotected B pillar, or worse, the bolt.

I'll have to check my defer out, cannot say that I have ever hit my head on them when off roading........either while driving or being passenger

Yep, bloody painful, I've often wondered if anyone has been killed by a belt to the temple from the seat belt bolt.

I was going to use some polystyrene foam, but it's a once use only proposition.

Just came back from wreckers with 3 samples of caps but they are not wide enough to fit https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2018/04/845.jpg

I think I must be too short (5’7”) for this to be an issue in the 40+ years I have been driving series/Defenders. Never come close to whacking my head.

Have a look in the RPS for the perentie and you’ll get the Land Rover part number.

Oh Repair Parts Scale.....the army has one for each vehicle.

Just thinking might have to go over REMLR to find the online copy.

Or maybe frontline who are auctioning the perentie.

I notice my Puma already has plastic covers on the bolts, so they must be available somewhere.

Gday.
First trip out in my 2010 110 many moons ago, whilst backing out of my driveway my wife smacked her head on the plastic covered bolt.
I went to the wreckers and got the pillar top trim section and cut it to fit over the bolt. Put some high density foam in the gap (you couldn’t see it under the trim)
Fixed in place using a trim plug into the top pillar hole. It looked quite neat and would, most likely, be a lifesaver in the event of a headbang.
I’ve been meaning to do the same on the 130...........
Its on the list

Great solution, appreciate feedback.
Will definitely consider this but only if I can't find a suitable cap.

I guess you could take the cover off, put some foam inside and then force it back on, so if the head hits it, it would give.

May be you could wear helmets as a protective measure !!! 😉
Seriously after 30 years of owning / driving and the odd crash/ rollover in land rovers, never suffered head contact with B pillars.

Well, it happened on a couple of occasions while doing some rough tracks so I thought that's twice too many[emoji2]

They were on my 85 County when I bought it.
I thought they were standard.
