GRRRR!
after 27 phone calls to the dealer,
and arranging flights and a Repco inspection
it seems the report
while excellent
tells the dealer the car DOESNT have ACE.
bit of a shock for everyone involved,,
( monumental understatement )
though when the dealer rang me to give me that hidden tidbit,, shock was what I hoped he be sitting thru.
how can someone do that for a living and
NOT know ?
or even take the time to look?
its a really nice car,, its just not what he advertised.
and not what i want.
how do you put a price on NOT having a piece of technology?
GRRR.

My neighbours had a D2 TD5 . Theirs also had A.C.E. They purchased a brand spanking new For XR6 just before they got rid of the Disco. They reckoned that the Disco was not far off the Ford for handling. (Probably a bit of an exageration but still a good report).

My ES DII had ACE. Purchased the car new and thought the handling was fantastic. This was going to be the car I kept for a long time. At that time I was a member of the Disco2.com web site. (whats happened to that site?). Well, the ACE stories were not that great, noise problems, sensor failures, burn't oil (it uses high speed pumps), fractured pipes, engine fires, high $$$$ repairs!. Some were apparently ripping the ACE units out and refitting fitting standard suspension. Note: all of these reports were mainly in the USA.
Anyhow, It was not looking good for long term ownership in my eyes. Mine never had a single problem, but then I only kept it for 18 months before purchasing the Defender 90.
Take the standard vehicle and fit some OME gear under it. Unless you are going to drive Nurburgring you probably wont miss it, and you will sleep better at night.

I agree, keep it simple. Wouldn't by a D2 with ACE, less **** to go wrong in the bush.
I think I like my ol' 87 Hi-line more and more with bugger-all electronics and simplicity these days.

Yep.....I've still got my horse n' cart in the garage too
The ACE is brilliant. It handles like a normal car and just the ability to push through a corner as if it was on rails is amazing. You have to remember you a throwing 2 tonne of car around.
I had a Discovery S1 and nearly put it on its side day when some idiot didn't want to be stuck behind a V8 fwd when merging on an overtaking lane....the swerving was enough. With the ACE you can do what you want and you know it will level out and stick.
I have also read that the ACE gives you more articulation...but this is not my speciality so maybe someone else can answer that one
Cheers,
Lyndon.

I get your point. I'm just saying that with all these elcctronics, it makes me a bit uneasy going off-road. But technology is here to stay so I may as well get used to it and not whinge https://www.aulro.com/afvb/
I suppose that's what road side assist is for, but half of them are idiots who don't have a clue about LR's and bang on about 'a mates mate had one and it always broke down' sor of crap :x :x :x

As a Land Rover Forum Tragic I don't think I have ever come across any issues relating to faulty ACE...other tragics are welcome to a rebut.
Off road at low speeds it "disconnects" allowing normal articulation.
So if that is the case then ACE is the way to go.
Hold out for it Pedro

Hi Pedro
I know we are a long way away in WA.
Try the guy I got mine from,he was very helpfull and as far as car salesmen go pretty good to deal with, push for free delivery, plenty of empty car carriers driving around the country, car sellers use them all the time so they get rates we can only dream of.

I traded a 2004 Holden Commodore for my '99 TD5 Disco with ACE and 90,000 on it and the disco handles FAR better then the holden ever did. Brakes on the disco are leagues apart from the holden as well!!
I have heard also that the ACE gives more articulation although I have nothing to compare it to.
If the ACE goes wrong in the bush, surely you can just disengage it and drive as normal?

Well all that I can say at this stage confirms Ray's comments.
It is a very nice unit.
Pedro took some photo's with DZ's camera tonight.
But if I can get up earlier than an ex Newsagent (DEFENDERZOOK) I could have the scoop posted early tomorrow from my mobile phone.
Oh.....it has ACE https://www.aulro.com/afvb/
