Hi all,
I searched the forum but couldn’t find a mention of this particular problem. The 90 (2013 Tdci) has developed an intermittent rubbing sensation in the steering, which is accompanied by a soft scraping sound. My first thought was that either the steering column UJ, the steering linkage or the steering damper was rubbing on something.
I had a look underneath and can’t see any evidence of rub marks in any of the components. The UJ is well clear of the turbo hose, having had the extra hose bracket fitted under a recall notice. The only thing I can think is that something is not lubricated properly or a bearing has failed, but that doesn’t really stack up, as the problem is intermittent. It seems to happen when pulling out of a parking space or the driveway at manoeuvring speed, just when the wheel is first turned (always with the car moving). It mostly happens when the car is cold, but I can think of one instance when everything would have been at, or close to operating temperature.
Does anyone have any insights?
