Just crossed the line into the "Motorhome" fraternity on the weekend.
Picked this vehicle up over on the east coast Friday afternoon, then travelled home (1000 kays) in it over the weekend.
Drives and runs extremely well, cruises effortlessly at 100 kph, and rides very smoothly on airbag suspension .
Mitsubishi Fuso "T" Drive, 7 metres long, east/west rear mounted 7.3 litre six cylinder diesel, 6 speed manual transmission.
Should have enough grunt to tow a trailer with a series Landy on it. ;)
A very big thankyou to Ron101 from here on AULRO for taking the time to look it over for us, taking lots of photographs,
and giving a very accurate and informative appraisal.
Cheers, Mick.

Looks really good Mick - where are you headed ?
Evidently has room for a set of golf sticks in the back - I think it may be a golf buggy on that trailer :)

No real destination as yet Lawrie, but looking forward to taking it to the Corowa and Melrose events next year.
Golf gear will be in the baggage storage underneath. There will be a series Landy on a trailer at the rear. ;)
Cheers, Mick.

Looks good Mick and hopefully years of happy motoring ahead :)
How's the engine/transmission/drive line tie together with a rear mount east west engine behind the rear axle ? I can't quite wrap my head around it.

Yeh Deano I was in the same boat as you when I first became aware of them, couldn't get my head around it.
It's called a "T" Drive, which is the configuration. It also allows the injector pump side of the motor to face the rear, so everything is very accessible.
Basically an east west donk and gearbox with a transfer case type arrangement on the end. Then a drive shaft from that runs back west to east into a right angle drive box (diff type arrangement) then another driveshaft runs to the diff. The diff yoke faces rearwards, not forwards.
I will post a few pics of it later today.
Cheers, Mick.

Hence the reason I went for this type/style of bus, very overpowered and a big strong drive line for towing etc.
The other option was a Hino in a similar size and similar power plant, but some of them have a mid mounted donk.
Cheers, Mick.

The chassis on that bus is very interesting too...........it doesn't have one.......it is a space frame type arrangement and the air bag suspension is independent on the front........a very advanced bus for its year of manufacture.............I learnt a lot just looking around the thing......it should be a great drive.
It is thought out extremely well and access is very good.

Aah ha .................. :) , would I be right in assuming East/West with output on the drivers side feeding a chain drive (a bit like a Patrol transfer case) down to a cross shaft into a 90 degree (bevel gear ?) drive to a rear input facing diff ?
Thanks
Deano :)

Not sure about the chain transfer, but definitely a transfer of some description.
The east/west certainly makes the motor very accessible and I could easily slip the gearbox out the side and replace a clutch if need be.

Some info on the engine,
it's actually a 6D16, 7545cc and interestingly it has the same stroke as a 4BD1 Isuzu donk, 118mm, with just another couple of pots.
Cheers, Mick.

A guy near me has had a Denning 40' three axle highway coach, Detroit 8V71N, 7 speed Spicer box, Rockwell axle for sale for quite some time. Fully kitted out as a mobile home.
Anyone interested then PM me and I will get his name, 'phone, $$$$$$$ to you.
