Inspired by Lee and his intrepid and wilful use of his Loire blue D5 out bush; and as an avid Defender owner, I’d love to see who has the dirtiest D5! How many D5 owners are working their beautiful new chariots to the bone?

I suspect Lee may well be on his own for this one. Hoping to be proven wrong, but I think the only other guys that will take 'em and use 'em, will be those paid to do it.

You need to upgrade to a new shiny D5.
I'll take your crappy old D4 off you hands. You won't have to pay me much to do it.

Why do you think no one will take their D5's off road? I take my L405 everywhere I would take the D4, I just don't do the super scratchy tracks in it yet. I still have my scratched up D4 for that! The L405 is better off road than the D4, especially with its much lighter weight and extra lift, so that is what it does. I have larger AT tyres and I have Llams fitted as well for extra flexibility off road.

It’s not a Land Rover without scratches! [bigwhistle] ...but I reckon I’d be hesitant if I had a shiny new D5! ...Kudos to all who go for it anyway!

I had one of the first D4s off the boat in Australia (Built AUG 2009) and got it filthy from day one .... why buy one otherwise? :-)
Got plenty of looks and those sorts of questions .... and plenty of people appreciated I 'was actually using it'.
However, only a few weeks later on Fraser Island I drove past another 'First Release' D4 .... same Stornoway Gray colour too :-) ..... He obviously had no issues getting his dirty either.... :-)
So people ..... use them .... :-)

Strange coincidence here,i had one of the first '99 D2's.
End of first week we had it,we went to Fraser island, first trip since '74.Havent been there since,it had changed a bit,not for the better[bigsad]
The guy piloting the barge came down to look at it as he had not seen one and was an LR nut.
Didn't see one while we were on the island either.
Maybe ours was the first of the new model to go there, who knows.

Lee called in this morning and his D5 was spotless, and wearing new 20" husla rims and BFG K02 at's.

Who knows Paul ... I was pretty surprised to not only see one but for it to be identical to mine. I tooted and waved as I drove past .... the guy looked startled .... my family embarrassed .... he was probably thinking for a second I'd nicked his car ... my family had just realised they had just started on a nauseous, Land Rover Lover journey LOL!!!
I got a few comments on the barge from Inskip .... one was the barge guy asking if I had a flat ... he obviously didn't like the tiny bags on my 19" tyres at 18 psi ... :-). Next was the dentist who had a LC100 and Prado with him on the trip .... he was genuinely salivating and wanted a complete show and tell :-).
Can't comment on the Island as I'd never been there before. I've been there twice since ..... it has lots of great stuff to look at but I prefer Moreton Is. I had a GF in the 80's who worked at the Orchid Beach Resort .... but that was long gone when I went there (just like so many other island resorts these days). Just some grumpy bastard running the shop/fuel stop ..... that was gobsmacking!!!
Cheers,
Kev.

I have a 99 D2 bought it October 99 and still have it ( Looking at upgrading to D5 ) but within a week had it off road and covered in mud the only clean part was where the wipers cleared the mud off the windscreen, the looks I got when driving through Sydney one lunch time was priceless, my mate said it was if they had never seen a dirty 4wd.

Hi Tom
Have you fitted mudflaps on your car? Looking at the dirt on mine I think they might help to keep dirt and stones off some of the body particularly low down.
