Td5 oil filter

:evil: I just did a service on my disco, What a pain in the arse!
Has anyone got any easier ways of doing it without using a screw driver and hammer

Most of the time I can get mine off with a little bit of effort. I found the easiest way is to stand along side the car (passenger side) facing the front and with your right hand reach backwards and up to grasp the filter to undo it. You can then push up on the the filter to get a bit of purchase. Same goes for getting it back in. It is not real easy but a lot easier than facing it.

I think the problem with new vehicles is that the filter is fitted while the engine is out of the vehicle so the thoughtless assembler gives it a mighty great turn and tightens it up so much it's a swine to move in a restricted space.
One of the LROCWA members has made a device which is like little ring of metal pipe which is slightly bigger in diameter than the filter. He can then slide this under and then up the filter and then tighten a thumbscrew which goes through a nut welded on the side which then digs into the filter and he can then exert some force on the thumbsrew to loosen the filter.
It works well and I'm going to try to get him to make me one.

I havn't had a problem with the oil filter on my TD5 but I did with the fuel filter :evil:
As others have told me you don't need to tighten them to much. Just hand tighten and check for leaks. I have only ever had problems with cars I have bought on the first change, never after I have done the service.
