Morning all,

I've recently jumped underneath to change my transmission oil and on removing the inspection/fill plug had approximately 300ml of oil drain out before settling at the correct (bottom of thread) level.

The vehicle was level and the engine was warm/driven about 20 minutes prior.

I thought this was a bit odd but would ask more learned members their thoughts on how exactly someone had actually filled it to this level?

There does not appear to be any discernible difference in gear changing performance following this level adjustment.

As it happened I couldn't get a 32mm socket onto the drain plug so need to grab an appropriate ring spanner before I can complete the oil change.

Thanks

Dave

If you pump the oil in to fill the box you'll often overshoot the correct level as the nozzle fits the fill hole almost completely. When you pull the nozzle out you replace the plug as quick as possible to prevent oil going everywhere; hence the overfill. Completely harmless - in fact probably beneficial.

Thanks Dervish. I did suspect this could have been a previous strategy. Might look to employ it myself.

Cheers
