Hi,
I have a problem with the front passenger door. The latching mechanism has failed and the door is closed and locked. [bigsad]
Apart from cutting a hole on the door skin to get at the latch, what are my options to get the door open?
All suggestions are welcome. [bigsmile]

Is the door lock activating? Can you hear it? if not check fuses
If it is activating maybe cut away the door card, the inside part, easier to replace.

Hi Bohica,
Are the doors individually fused? All other door are working OK.

I'm new to the Freelander. I'll have to go through the docco. It could be a cut the door card job. My Freelander (the daughter's) is out atm. I'll have a look on Sat and see if I can work anything out.
Oh!
Can you manually unlock the door?
Have you tried the dash lock unlock buttons?
If it is the actuator is will be cut the door card up to get to it. Maybe.

Not sure if you know, but on the key fob there is a pull out which will work like an old fashioned key you can insert in door handle. On the door handle you unclip a plastic cover to reveal key hole.

Yes I've tried that and it won't unlock the door either.

Have you tried a reboot i.e disconnect battery for a minute or so then reconnect only an outside chance, but seems to cure a lot of odd electrical problems on Freos and other cars.

Manual unlock from the inside?

Manual unlock from the inside?
No. Nothing works. Inside handle - fail
Emergency key - fail
Key fob - fail
Dash unlock button - fail
It looks like I have to destroy the door card to get at it. The trouble is I don't know how I can release the latch when (if) I get in there.

Have you tried googling Freelander 2 front door lock problems, a lot comes up.

Yes, pretty much all relate to failure of the unlock motor. You have to manually lock and unlock the door by the inside handle. In my case the inside handle doesn't unlock the door.

Sorry but out of ideas, sounds like you better start pricing some door cards!

You could try drowning the key hole with WD40 and see if it works its way thru.
