My fuel tank is supposedly 105l but the most I have put in it is 89l and the low fuel warning had been on for 60km and the range display said I had 10km left.
Today the warning had been on for 20km and it had 50km range and I put 82l in. The needle was still out of the red zone.
What are other peoples experiences?
Ideally I would like the warning to come on with 10-15l of fuel left. I may have to carry 10l of fuel and run it until it stops or at least until the gauge shows empty to see what the actual tank capacity is.

I agree, the fuel tanks seem a bit hit and miss as to what their actual capacity is. According to the brochures, sdv8 for MY15 has 105 and for MY16 has 89. Running it until it stops may not be advisable.... from the owners manual - Running out of fuel draws air into the fuel system and may cause serious damage to the fuel injection system. In this event, seek qualified assistance immediately.

Not such a big deal with mine as it is a petrol engine, still not a good idea as it sucks up the crap into the filter and the filter is in the tank. I just need to know how far I can go and prefer to find out in a controlled situation.

Sounds suspiciously like the D4,tank is supposedly 83 usable, but i have never been able to get more than 76l in it.

A few threads about this.

My D4 is quite good. I have 85l + 92l auxiliary. It comes up with the warning with about 10l left. The most I have put in is 172l and it still showed 40km range.

I thought I read somewhere that the ecu will reduce power for a few kms and then shut down the engine before the fuel runs out to protect it. If this is the case, a jerry can will be all you need to answer the question.

I crushed my tank years ago and the sensors haven’t been right since..

I get 470 from the main tank and then it demands a refill.
Never get more then 50 litres in the damn thing...

One day I’ll replace it..
