Has anybody ever tried to do a body off chassis keeping the body in one piece?
I have a two post hoist available. The roof is off.

I would think it would be difficult , you would need to brace everything , it is hard enough getting the body off in pieces. Some pieces need to go up , back then up again, others up forward then up again , there is also the gear leavers coming up through the floor & gear box tunnel. Putting it back together would be impossible there would be too many things to line up. You can also clean up any corrosion between the panels when you pull it a part .

I did a total strip down on my 80". I had the same "patina" idea as you, but the bulkhead/ firewall is the main problem. Just about every system is either connected to or goes through it. The front guards are connected to the chassis and bulkhead. All the front panels flop around like a c--k in a sock, and are likey to get damaged. You can unbolt the rear tub and seat box, as they are rigid enough to remove as a structure.
A tip. Tighten all the 1/4" BSF bolts up a little first, then wire brush the exposed threads if you can get at them, then spray some inox , anti-sieze or similar before you undo them. I find those new 3/8" drive electric rattle guns are magic. Tighten a little, loosen a little, back and forth. You can save a lot of snapped off bolts this way. I like to re-use the original bolts where ever I can.
