Nanocom Evo .map issue
Cant save a .map file from ECU to the SD card in the Nanocom, can/cant do the following:

*Have a NNN500250 ECU
*Can copy/save a standard tune .map onto the SD card.
*Can flash a standard tune .map upto the ECU using Nanocom.
*D2 manual drives well with standard tune.
*Nanocom reads/saves .map back to SD card (i rename it), all seems ok.

*BUT when I read the .map file off computer its 0KB in size, anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

That's interesting. I had reset the SRS light on Charlie so I gave save map file a crack at the same time and it worked for me. File came in at 117kb in size.

So 2 thoughts:


At the folder screen i hit OK and it slowly chugged through the bytes. At the end of this I had a default.map file appear in the nanocom file window and then i saved using another name. Maybe its a 2 step process?
There could be a bug in the nanocom firmware version you are using. I'm running v1.34. Check the change logs on the nanocom website to see if there is any mention of a bug like this being fixed. If so then update the firmware.

Ta Steve, hopefully that might work. He's already on v1.34 on his brand new Evo (and nearly pulling his hair out). When he gets it sorted, I'll do mine to send back to Jose at TD5 for some fine tuning (no pun intended)

Have posted over in the BBS forum, but on reading through their forum, their answers (in general) tend to be more generic in nature rather than actually helpful.
AULRO members are of far more use.

Not particularly pulling my hair out, it just gets to the point I cant dedicate hours on doing something that at the end of the day is of a far lower priority than the list of other jobs that need doing

This is my second purchase of a Nanocom Evo, and its a great bit of gear.
On a far more positive spin, I fixed my Pa's (Dad) Defender that had been re-mapped by a local guy, BUT the temp gauge never worked. Short version of story, basically after spending a decent chunk of money, the guy doing the re-map lost interest in fixing the temp gauge, so I lost interest in sending any more re-map work his way.
I downloaded the BBS Map wizard and loaded a standard Defender tune, all stock now with a working temp gauge.

Mine Disco, same thing, used a stock map for a manual disco and its running fine, with no faults.
So in both instances the Nanocom has been great.

Just need to now work out what I'm doing wrong with the downloading of the .map file to the SD card so it can be sent to ALIVE tuning.

Is the problem file standard tune? , if not it might be encrypted
You should be fine to send off the map that's working to alive tuning
If the local guys name begins with M , I gave up years ago

Agreed regarding the rather generic replies in the support forum, but in their defence it’s amazing how often they fix the issue for users. In the last 18 months I’ve been seeing the other side of the software support fence at work and its been an eye opener.

So only other immediate thoughts are, maybe get a second set of eyes on the problem or strange as it seems try another SD card. It’s not inconceivable that the nanocom has problems writing to that one card.

Yes, I assume they want the downloaded from the ECU which at a guess will have the VIN in it, there must be some way so they can protect the integrity of their tunes so they cant be loaded onto numerous vehicles, which is fair and rightly so.

I had thought that some of the NNN ECU I have had been messed with before, hence the uploading of a standard .map file onto them to bring them back to stock.

I will get back and try some ideas as suggested here, I just havent had time to play with my own stuff.

On a win note, my Pa (Dad) is far more happy with a standard .map on his Defender, he said not as quick off the mark but runs smoother, all the clack clack has gone and is getting better fuel economy, so I'm going to leave his at that.

Some tuners will send their tune .map file, vin locked, others .tun file, vin locked , nanocom ID number specific.

So just an update on this thread...


*AULRO member and a customer of mine lent me his stack of sd cards to play with. (Gavin Wibrow)
*32mb card worked perfectly, downloaded .map file from D2 and sent it off to Alive Tuning with all my info.
*They sent back a .tun file to the specs based on the info I supplied, uploaded it, runs great (actually awesome).


*Going to test other sized cards as I have some 2GB ones.
*Doesnt look like the Nanocom likes the 8GB OR the brand from Jaycar.
*I had thought the 8GB issue had been resolved, I'd ask in the BBS support, but bluntly thats pretty useless.

Interesting. Thanks Darren.

From sad experience I only use brand name SD cards these days like Sandisk. The memory chip quality is better, particularly in the faster ranges.

2 of the ones I lent Darren were the ones that came supplied with my latter 2 Nanocoms (I think Scandisk, and maybe even Nanocom branded?) so would be sad if they didn't work, as I've never had occasion to use either of them.

Yes I have a Nanocom fitted permanently in each car (cheap instrumentation/insurance in my view), and also had to replace one which was stolen whilst the RRC was away for a headlining replacement.

My .tune says that's it's the wrong manor ID, can I upload it with the map function of Nanocom?

Did the OP reformat the sd cards using the Nanocom program on their website before trying the download?

If not that could be the problem.

Did the voltage drop during the download?

Which folder of the SD card do you put it into? The BBS or SLBs or whatever it's called?

Yes re format, and I always connect a power source while doing any map work.

All sorted, as I had suspected it looks like being the cheap Ho Ming brand of SD card. Using known good brands and its fine
