I'm looking at getting a set of mirrors for towing our van and I'm looking at a pair of Clearview ones.
They aren't cheap at $750 but I'd look at them if there are enough happy users.
Does anyone have any feedback, good or bad.
Or are there others that do the job?

I have got a set of clearviews on my 79 series ute and they are really good, I would fit a set of these to my D2a in a heartbeat but they don't make them for D2's unfortunately.

Problem is when not towing they make the vehicle look like

There’s several using a less intrusive mirror, a quick search would find it.

I use these on my D4: Drive Towing Mirror - With Magnetic Support Pad, Single - Supercheap Auto (http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/Product/Drive-Towing-Mirror-With-Magnetic-Support-Pad-Single/321389)
Very happy.

I call those Clearview mirrors "Look at me mirrors" as many of those that have keep them extended and do indeed make them look like elephant ears. :) I use just on which straps onto the right hand mirror but is quite deep and wide but can be a bit of a pig to set correctly when taking wind force into account. But it does the job well enough without the expence of the Clearview or altering the vehicle and is better than many now on the market.
No name on it (I've got 2 but use the one) but I've had them for years.

I’ve never bothered with extend mirrors when I towed a caravan......whats behind me was of little interest......
I do wonder why those with clear views don’t pull them in when not towing......must be an effort or need tools to do it.

Nope. They simply push/pull. It’s laziness I guess?

I have looked, but I'm just trying to find something that works, and doesn't fall off after a couple of trips.
I've never used towing mirrors, so it is something I know nothing about.

I would have thought that your mirrors would be just as important (If not More) when you are towing as opposed to when you are not towing especially on Freeways/Dual carriageways.
I bought a set of extended mirrors that clamp onto the D2a factory mirrors as I hate the ones that fit onto the doors that rattle about and those ones that rely on straps over the existing mirrors look a bit too "Flimsy".

.
Umm....I could see the van with standard mirrors, I towed at the speed limit...with standard mirrors you get a look at what’s behind as soon as your on a slight bend/corner. I never found and difficulties getting from point A to point B.
Why more important on freeways.....? I figured less important.

I use the Milenco Aero 3, these stay on fine for me, probably done about 2,500km with them, but I have not taken them offroad yet. They are easy to attach and remove. The car's fold-in mirrors function can still work with them attached (just) , as can the blind-spot monitoring (just) . They are also fairly unobtrusive.

And yet you wonder why caravaners get a bad wrap [bigwhistle]

And of course to be a wowser - it is actually illegal not to have mirrors that allow you to see behind the van - Mr Plod likes this one when caravaners have been annoying him.
Not sure how rear cameras fit in with this law but you have to have mirrors that allow you to see traffic etc behind your van.

Rear cameras don’t meet current legislation

Agree, after my issue the other week and than researching mirrors need to be reflective, no mention of digital alternative.

I would have thought it was all part of safe driving to be constantly checking what's coming up behind you. I certainly do as I can talk to truck drivers or others wanting to go past and that surely must be safer than suddenly having a dirty great truck thundering past that you're unaware of?
Each to his own I suppose and as most drivers never seem to look in their rear vision mirrors it seems to be par for the course to think it doesn't matter.

Given the money spent on vans, Discos and other such things, I think I’d get the Clearview mirrors if I had a large van. Already with my camper I can’t see where the rear corners are when reversing so have to stop and get out to check when reversing in narrow positions

Agree....for those towing a caravan full time (grey nomads or big papers) than the Clear Views do look like a good option.......appear to be well made, sturdy, nice and big....way better looking than the half arse add on mirrors available.

Very “fit for purpose”. But ridiculous when no van attached [emoji41]
I’d only look at a solid clamp on as when the van isn’t attached the Clear View are ridiculous.

I have used clamp on, strap on and those bloody awful contraptions that you affix to the door, Then I have used clearview mirrors.
Aesthetics aside (I actually think that the clearview's look much better than all the others) the clearview's do the job so much better than all the others I have used and they don't vibrate, rattle or worse simply fall off.
Like I said IF I could get a set of clearview's to fit my D2a I would fit them in a heartbeat, Unfortunately they don't make them for this model landrover so I am stuck with a set of clamp on's.
Yes all the other types of mirrors are much less expensive than a genuine set of clearview mirrors But as for being fit for purpose the clearview's win hands down.

Hi,
I'm not towing, but carry a slide on camper too wide for normal Defender mirrors, so I got the extended arms.
Very usable, but still got the odd surprise from behind.
I recently got a reversing camera/screen from Safety Dave and wired it in so I can have it on/off when I want.
It is brilliant! No more wondering if there is anything tucked in behind.
Cheers
