Well, I don't get an audio notification every time someone posts a minion meme on facebook.
Judging by the amount of beeps and pings I here through the day, I'm sure many people do.
Oh, I can't even get onto facebook on my phone.

I have a smart phone But to me it is just a phone, If I miss a call or a message I will get around to it in my own good time.
I often leave it in the car or simply turn it off and it really doesn't bother me if I run out of reception.
I also don't "DO" facelick.

Why not? Those Minion memes are good. The Macca memes are excellent. What a legend Macca is!

Those that know me also know I can get by without my phone as I rarely answer it after hours as it’s a work phone and I don’t have a personal phone (well I think I do, but not sure where it is).

Best thing about a smart phone is the camera. It is also sometimes useful for talking on too.

I agree, I am pretty certain that I have taken more photo's than made phone calls on my phone over the years.
Not as good as my DSLR camera but nowhere near as bulky either and the image quality is also very good.

I use my smart phone all day every day for both work and pleasure. It is a computer. My laptop computer is only more useful for word processing and it's bigger screen. I don't have a problem with this.

Love my smartphone, I use it for so much.
Call, texts, messanger, whatsapp, facebook, instagram, maps and navigation, GPS tracker for my dog, internet, alarm clock, photos and video, basic computer, calculator, spirit level, notepad and voice recorder, music via bluetooth to the car and hands free calls, Siri to do simple tasks for me and answer questions, my sports training programs from my coach are acessible via an app and also Garmin connect which downloads data for the coach from a proper sports watch, emails, checking the weather via weatherzone app, ATM and petrol station finder with prices, downloads podcasts that I listen to, it has a metronome when I need timing for various things and it is a torch. Smartphone is one of the most useful things I carry on me.

I regularly forget where I have left my (hand me down) iPhone. 'Tis a bugger when I've left it on silent (often) so ringing it doesn't help find it.

The Very best first aid app is to do an advanced first aid course and remember what you have learned, Anything you have loaded on a smartphone pales into insignificance [thumbsupbig]
Seriously how can an app on a smartphone be of any use when you have to load up the app then read and understand what you have to do when your patient may need air/cpr or be bleeding out and die while you are stuffing around with your phone reading about what you need to do.

Better to have it than to not have it. Great for confirming and refreshing, especially prior to going into a scenario. The info is always with you and in a situation you or a helper can use it to confirm you haven't forgotten anything. I think it's a great idea as an aid to first aid training

I would think that first aid training would be one of the most important things to take away with you when touring or even simply taking your family away camping and once you have learned it you will always have it with you.
It only takes 2 days out of your life to do a Saint Johns course and it is by far one of the most useful pieces of safety kit you can ever have with you

I think your right about the personal training,, however, I'm thinking depending on how the APP is upgraded/updated, which I assume it would be,,, (although we all no what the word "assume" relates to).
I've done the course several times in the past for work, and every time I've gone back, somethings been changed. I've let my certs run out now, well and truly, so an App for someone like me might be good to catch up on new info or techniques which may have changed.
Hands on however, is certainly the best thing to do, where you actually have to "practice" various things. Has been invaluable in the past for me, and funnily enough, mostly on camping trips etc [bighmmm]

For me it’s not so much FOMO with my phone because I don’t follow social media, but I use my phone everyday for most of what slunnie has included above + more.
... I will admit that if I can’t find my phone I can have a mild panic attack until I do! It’s become part of my brain. I have lots of knowledge, ideas, memos, contacts, etc on it. I use this the camera all the time, including to enable me to read small text LOL! + photographing documents to send myself and others.
Like Mick says it’s a computer, but also a hard drive for many of life’s necessities.
Having said that, I also have no trouble choosing to switch it off. I often put it in flight mode (no calls) but have wifi on, so I can choose how I use it. Often I also choose to switch off altogether and i love the feeling of relief of going away where there is no signal.
All of which is also mildly concerning, because it is getting harder to do, both because the world is now so connected and demands constant connectivity. But also because I’ve come to completely rely on my phone for so much. Navigation, research, banking, diary, to name just a few. These devices kill self reliance. I used to have a notebook, paper diary, paper maps, etc - none of which needed a charged battery and connection to function. No power, no wifi! Not a good feeling if you need it!
First Aid reminder on phone - great, but no substitute for knowing it. Repair manual for Defender on phone - tick! But no use without practice, tools and parts.
Ear cancer? Who knows
FOMO? Not really, more like FOLBC (fear of losing brain connectivity).
...or FOLA (fear of losing autonomy)!!

The apps regularly update. Don't need a phone signal. It only takes a few seconds to check, once you have done the basics. Better to double check than to risk overlooking something.
I regularly do first aid for school camps and events. Doing another one next week. Mostly it's minor stuff, but I did once spend a chilly Wednesday night in the Emergency Ward of Canberra Hospital with an injured student. Emergency wards are an eye opener, I can say.
Our organization pays for every staff member to stay up to date with first aid, as part of our duty of care for students.
If nothing else, I encourage everyone to download the St Johns and/or Red Cross apps and read them carefully. One day it could save a life
Anyway, this is a bit off topic.

Yeah that why I purchased them for work.....a little different to the normal kit and the bride thought it was good breaking the kit into three separate pouches targeting different level of injury.

Whenever I buy a new first aid kit I usually junk all the petty injury stuff (band aids and such) and turn it into a trauma kit.
This includes Good quality bandages, suture strips, antiseptics, wound pads, the gel type gauzes for burns and a couple of those inflatable splints as most of these things are rarely found in the first aid kits you buy.
I have found that the vast majority of commercial first aid kits would be pretty useless for use with a major trauma.
DiscoMick
22nd May 2018, 11:15 AM
Yes, Band Aids are useless. I throw in spray antiseptic because it is so useful. I must ask for inflatable splints to be added to ours.

Just did some research on inflatable splints and was impressed at the range and usefulness of those available. Not that expensive either. I have asked admin. to buy some.
Certainly better for immobilising than two sticks and a roll of Duct tape!
