Maybe one for you Bob?
Just finished reading this book about how the RAF got a single 30 Y.O. Vulcan Bomber, a couple of months away from retirement, to carry out a successful bombing mission against the Stanley Airfield during the Falklands War, a 15 hr flight, 4000 miles over its maximum range, taking 15 Victor Tankers, 17 separate in-flight refuellings, to get one single Vulcan B2 over the target, with any chance of coming home!
What a book, I actually thought I was in the cockpit, & Jeremy Clarkson said, "it could have been written specially for me"!
I couldn't put it down.

I watched a pretty good documentary on this same subject a while ago. You've certainly got to give it to the Poms for guts and determination, whoever said 'you can't make a silk purse from a sows ear' was wrong on this occasion. :) Not the first time the Poms have pulled one out of the hat, the Dunkirk evacuation and the Campbeltown raid to name a couple.

It may not have achieved much tactically but was a strategic masterstroke.

I remember when details of the raid started appearing in the press. I was very impressed way back then!
