I caught the lift up with the big boss on Monday morning.
In the short trip on being asked what filled my weekend I explained that I spent some of it helping Cousin John restore his LR.
and I quote:

Fortunately I had to get out of the lift before I could give him an answer...my response would not have been a positive career move.
Actually forget the subject the real question is:
And what does he drive?

I'm not sure that this is true, but somewhere I heard that in some state or other, up to 70% of all Land Rovers ever made are still on the road or in one piece. If this is the case then it must universally be accepted that Land Rovers are, yes, worth restoring.

One,
It really comes down to your definition of the word WORTH doesn't it?
Are they economically viable to restore... 8O  8O .... no bloody way!!!
Can you get huge satisfaction out of investing your time and energy restoring one of these adictive toys.... of COURSE!!!!
Will people like your boss ever understand.....................  Well we both know the answer to that one!

Financially, NO car is worth restoring. You can take a car worth $X, spend $Y restoring it (let alone your time) and it will be worth less than $(X+Y); that is guaranteed.
On the other hand, that $(X+Y) may well provide you with a vehicle that you would have to spend more to equal. The advantage of Landrovers (Series and Defenders anyway) is that because they are largely bolted together, they can be brought to as new condition much more easily than anything else. And most parts are available or can be easily made.
Interesting point - I read a few days ago an article claiming that the Ford Model T had a longer production run than any other model car (except the VW beetle) - 1907 to 1926, nineteen years. The Landrover 110/Defender has now been in production for 23 years and is forecast to continue at least until 2010, which will make it 27 years. And has had less changes in that time than either the Ford T or the Beetle. Of course if you lump the Series 2/3 together they ran for 27 years as well, with less changes than either the Beetle or Ford T.
Other long lived models include the RR Silver Ghost 19 years, Citroen DS, also 19 years, Citroen 2CV about 35 years (not sure when it stopped, but I think about 1948-93)

As JD said no vehicle is worth restoring from a financial point of view as any money invested is unlikely to be seen again. But i think they are yes.
As for what he drives, i am guessing toyota. Matt

Imagine in 22 years time how much fun you could have restoring one of these:

But I suspect it wouldn't be worth the trouble.
But a County still would be. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/
A few of you were close...ish

Never, ever quote that on a non-LR forum.
You will be inundated with responses like "Yes, they are still out on the road waiting to be towed home"

But it's true, Anthony. I've seen it a number of times.
They take every oportunity to stick it into LR owners.

I have to disagree on one point, certain vehicles you will get your money back but it depends on what you pay for it in the first place.
I think if you like it and it is not beyond repair then it is worth restoring, to a concourse condition ? probably not but at least to a useable reliable condition. I doubt there ever has or will be a toyota worth restoring, nissan well ther are some early examples like the 60's fairlady's that are but not much else.

Yeah but a lexus has been coated in that stuff that doesnt leave hand prints when you open the door or the kids touch it. Thats what the extra dollars are for. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

Especially on the Overlander forum with more rules and regulations that a communist government.
Plus they're mostly idiots over there IMO. I get the impression that they all try and out-do each other and LR bashing is there sense of insecurity
