My TD5 finally has a new oil pressure gauge after 2 years of me fluffing around. It come with a settable low pressure warning.

Can anyone definitively tell me what is normal hot idle pressure/at what idle pressure should I become concerned?
When hot, mine will idle about 15 psi, and can drop a couple of psi further if I blip the accelerator.
When cold, pressure will rise to 60 psi once mobile.
Over to the wise?

Mate ive put a guage on 1 ehere the oil light was coming on at idle, it was 7.5 to 8 psi. The issue was swarf under the relief valve plunger, and cold pressures i have seen 60+!😲

G'day Justin - long time no see!
What happened to the idle hot pressure psi after you removed the swarf etc?

.... didn't check it again with the guage.. . Stuck the sender back in after removing the offending curl of aluminium from manufacture id say, and all was well again. That was 5 or more years back and engine still going well!🙂

Anyone know the answer to the bit in bold for a TD5?

Hi Gavin , was a while since I tested one but if I remember correctly, yours seems right ( I think the warning switch activates around 7psi ) so if you set your warning to around 8 psi that should be OK, anywhere between 22-45 psi is normal for driving while hot. Obviously idle when cold will be much higher but if you're seeing above 60 ( hot or cold then your relief valve might be stuck) , cold idle might be around 40 psi depending on wear

Thanks Craig. My alarm from factory activates at just above 10 psi, and when the TD5 is hot, will drop to about 10 on idle, and just below on a trailing throttle, or when I blip from idle.
So, i will re-set it at 8 or 9 psi, and should be fine.
Thanks for that.
Cheers Gavin
