https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ I suddenly adore my Land Rover even more..... https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/
One thing about Top Gear, they have always judged vehicles based on overall design and function merit - not its popularity or sales volume. If it does what it was designed to do - they give it praise. It it does NOT do what it was designed to do they give it hell.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/topgear/images/greatest/winner_feat_lead.jpg

http://www.bbc.co.uk/topgear/greatest/winner.shtml

The votes have been counted and the Land Rover is a clear winner with 29 percent of the vote. Here's how the others measured up: McLaren F1, 17 percent; Audi Quattro, 16 percent; Jag E-Type, 15 percent; Ford Mustang, 10 percent; Citroen DS, 6 percent; Fiat 500, 4 percent; Black Cab 2 percent and Rolls Royce Silver Cloud 1 percent.

After such lengthy service, the Land Rover really deserves a knighthood, but the greatest car award will do nicely.

(Apparently this isn't new news, but I've not seen it until now.)

You could give a Land Rover a knighthood, but in the words of a Top Gear presenter, "it wouldn't show up, it'd be too busy doing something important" https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

Why deface it with meaningless crap, it already has awards that actually mean something

Even if there are those that don't like Landies (please ask them to put aside their biases for the moment and take the video for what it is) - this video is a pretty good indicator as to why 4WD's are important to those who drive them - and why the anti-4WD brigade had better come up with a damn good reason to be without the humble 4WD.

I'm proud to drive a Land Rover.

Enjoy!

I've got that topgear episode (ok, i've got almost all of the "new" series  ), so if you can't find which one it is I can dig it out and let you know. It was from the 2nd or 3rd series from memory in a competiton to find the worlds greatest car, and it won

I have only got Top Gear episodes from December 2003 onwards (series 3). The Final Gear torrent archive doesn't have any of the "new" Top Gear episodes from series 1 & 2. If anybody knows where to get them I would be interested.

Phoenix
6th June 2006, 11:59 AM
You can get most of the older topgear episodes (including soem from the 80's ans 90's) from some of the FTP's that you can get access to on the finalgear forum.

There are a number of sites/applications that let you download videos from YouTube - I'm running the Firefox browser and there's a plugin called 'Download Helper' that gets the YT videos for me. They appear on my computer as 'flv' files that only plays in silly flash players at about the size of a postage stamp so I use video conversion software (CinemaForge in my case) to change the format to the more usual 'wmv' type.
If you don't run Firefox there are sites which claim they will convert YT videos for you to download (although the ones I tried didn't work). Google "download YouTube video" and see what turns up. ;)

Evening all
What was the original top gear program number that showed the 'land rover heritage clip' Ive attached it below but i dont know if the attachment will work. It was the one that had the Hamster extolling the design features of the series vehicles and talking about how they were the greatest car ever made.

it wont let me attach the clip for some reason.

solmanic

It was done in series 2 (2003) but I don't know the episode. The torrent that is available for download has several episodes cut down for commercial TV so that particular segment is missing.

Phoenix
29th October 2008, 01:20 PM
There are places you can get the original version. That article was cut out because it was a part of a phone vote competition for the greatest car of all time, which was won by the land rover.

If you go to the new topgear.com website it should say which episode in series 2 it aired in, otherwise visit finalgear.com ;)
