I have a Landrover Discovery 3 S TDV6 with air suspension and Terrain Response. The current tyres are Wranglers - 235/70R17. We have about 9000km on the clock. We have ripped a big hole in one of the tyres and someone has suggested having Light truck tyres fitted. Can anyone recommend a light truck tyre for the vehicle, and what impact will they have on my speedo and all the other electronic calculations made, such as litres per 100 km and distance travelled? Can the speedo etc be adjusted to the new tyres?
It has been suggested that I fit Toyo OPAT 265/70 R17 Light truck tyres. Any Suggestions, or should we stick to what we have got?

Hi snoopy, welcome to the site, as for tyres, I think you will find that the Wranglers are light truck tyres.

My MkIII Range Rover came with Wranglers, the same size as my wife’s D3

On the RR they don’t ware all that well but I have Purelli Scorpions on the RR at the moment and wouldn’t recommend them under any circumstances. They are the most dangerous tyres I have ever had on any vehicle, Sedan or 4x4.

There is a Michelin available for this size rim but it only comes in a 255/55 or a 255/65 and either of these would have a slight effect on your speedo reading but would not effect anything else.

I’m putting these on my RR in the next week or two and depending on how well they perform, I will replace the D3’s tyres with the Michelin.

To my knowledge, these three tyres are the only ones available that are road legal and from past experiences, the Michelins will prove to be the best.

Cheers

Hi Snoopy ...... the other option is to keep out of the Flinders Ranges creek beds so you don't hole your tyres !!!

Snoopy,

I don't know a great deal about Series III's, but I guess one would have to ask what your intended use is for your truck. What percentage on road-off road use will the tyres be subjected to?

I'm a fan of the BFG A/T's (very tough tyres) but they may not be your cup of t. Just my 2 cents worth.

if you live in QLD, K-mart tyre and auto are having a 15% off on Goodyear and Dunlop tyres til the end of today.

I orders a set of 31x10.5R15 Goodyear Wrangler MT/R's for $199 each yesterday, even without the 15% off they're a lot cheaper than I was quoted by Bob Jane, Beaurepairs, etc..

Has anyone tired the Goodyear Wrangler TG? They look like a fairly aggresive tyre and come in a 7.50R16.

Pick me, pick me. I run the TG Wranglers on my S3. Can't seem to get it bogged, no matter how hard I try. They seem to grip like the proverbial to a blanket, bitumen or dirt. And don't they make such a lovely howl, when they spin or lock on the bitumen. The open dirt tread pattern is a little harsh feeling on bitumen, but seems to soften the ride on the dirt, and the road noise? well, I drive a Series model. What road noise?:p

Shorty.

PS. The LT, after the tyre size, stands for Light Truck. As far as I know, all 4wd tyres are 8 ply Light Truck rated.
