Hi all

With my youngest son we have started the restoration of our second vehicle - a series 2a SWB called Clarkson. (We have all probably watched too much Top Gear).

The plan is to do a full nut and bolt restoration. The panels have a nice patina and are very straight. Lots of rust in the fire wall and chassis but I have rust free replacements for both. It doesn't run and we will have to rebuild the engine, gearbox and axels.

We learnt lots doing our first vehicle and are looking forward to knowing a few tricks this time. This time I will look to import less parts and only buy parts when we know what we actually need. However the biggest learning was probably - "there are no quick wins restoring a Land Rover". Still that is the fun.

Cheers
Angus

This is Clarkson at the start of the process. Our first vehicle (which is my middle son's) is on the left and has a few things left to finish off.

Excellent!! Keeping it all in the family. [bigsmile1]

Perhaps "James" aka Captain Slow might have been more appropriate...

Hi all

Progress on Clarkson has been slow but steady and we are getting to the last attachments to the Chassis. We recently took out the engine and gearbox. Next is the fuel tank and the axels/ suspension. Photo of current state attached.

As this is the second vehicle we have done, we have been much more efficient and labelled / stored each the parts in a way which should help in the rebuild phase.

I am still amazed how well these vehicles survive.

Cheers
Angus
