Hi Everyone,

Well i finally got around to installing my reverse camera and used the DISCO3UK guide, however ive encountered some issues that i hope you may provide some answers for.

After connecting the Fakra connector under the Rotary Gear knob to the Purple connector on the Head unit C2820(last on the end)
http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u118/geoffnvi/rear%20head%20unit.jpg (http://s166.photobucket.com/user/geoffnvi/media/rear%20head%20unit.jpg.html)
i then moved to the rear and installed the new camera and loom to suit. The female Fakra from the Camera
http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u118/geoffnvi/top%20fakra2.jpeg (http://s166.photobucket.com/user/geoffnvi/media/top%20fakra2.jpeg.html)

Was then connected to the Male Fakra in the rear roof lining
http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u118/geoffnvi/top%20fakra.jpeg (http://s166.photobucket.com/user/geoffnvi/media/top%20fakra.jpeg.html)

And i changed the CCF file, however the screen is black and it does give me the option of selecting Camera.

Can anyone maybe shed some light as to why this would be the case?

cheers
Geoff

Not installed one myself but I remembered there are two changes to be made in the CCF. You may have seen this already but just in case look at posts 66 and 67

Thanks Mog,

I did change both files, as they are within the same page, however i think maybe the cable from camera to the top of the rear door could be faulty and have ordered a replacement.

Updates to follow.

cheers
Geoff

Hi mate.
You can't "select" the camera as such on the touch screen. It can only be activated by selecting reverse. (This is presuming you are using a non-CANBUS camera for the video signal only.)

I did this retrofit on my MY14 and the CCF changes that eventually worked for me on my Nanocom are in this post (same thread): https://www.aulro.com/afvb/l319-discovery-3-and-4-a/208154-d4-my14-reversing-camera-install-8.html#post2411408

If the CCF changes are correct, a blank screen when you're in reverse would indicate a connection issue to me.

Could you confirm the part number of the camera you used ?

Hi David,

the camera part number is LR043493 and yes i believe that a connection will be the issue. Yes i am getting a blank screen when engaging reverse.

How did you go with this Geoff? I do remember a few people (on the Disco3 site) noting that the Fakra connectors do take a fair effort to ensure that they are completely home and 'clicked' in, especially the one under the console.

David,

i tracked the issue down to no power to the camera. The main lower connector within rear upper tailgate isn't powered and after receiving my Fakra cable from the UK, i played around with a jump power lead and presto it worked. Was very intriguing that there was a signal (Fakra) cable, however no power to the main lower plug (as in there were 6 wired ports in the camera side of the plug, however only 4 pins in the car side). Ill post a pic tomorrow.

Now to find the constant 12v, so-as i can power the camera. I'm going to choose the rear washer/camera, as that's what is fused beneath the glove box. More progress and posts to come.

cheers

As they say, perseverance pays off! After finally tracking down the issue of no power wiring in the loom, i got stuck in today and wired both power and coax. To say i'm impressed and happy with the results are an understatement.

If anyone is thinking about this upgrade, don't hesitate, just go for it. If anyone needs some assistance or advise when doing it, feel free to PM me, as I've disassembled the dash and the rear so many times now, i can do it in under 10 mins.

cheers
Geoff

Hi Chris, a little oddity I discovered the other day by accident. If I select Neutral then select the rear camera on the touch screen, as long as I select Drive immediately after that the rear camera display stays on while driving forward.. I don’t have a use for that at the moment but could be handy. Be interested if yours behaves the same way? David
