Decided to replace the “starting to get minor slop” front prop shaft with a Tom Woods one from Off-road Konnections. New shaft got to me from Vic to Brisb in 2 days and took old shaft out this morning. Car on ramps with jacks backup. Handbrake on and in park (auto).

Disconnected shaft at front on front diff flange then moved to rear bolts. Was expecting to have to reach over top of shaft to get to top bolt but when I put pressure on the lower nut without restraining the bolt head the shaft rotated with a minor click in the transmission (think it was there not TC). I can rotate the front transfer case output by turning on the prop shaft bolts ... I was expecting handbrake, transfer case and in P to prevent that happening.

TC does not have locking in case matters. Have I just forgotten that maybe in the past I’ve undone from the TC end first and thus had issues with the top nuts due to still being attached to the front diff ....

Yeah, no diff lock, one end of the diff will spin.
The handbrake hold the rear output shaft, so the front is free to spin.

I always undo the rear first as access is easier for the diff end nuts and bolts.

Click noise could be anything. Most likely just gears taking up slack, or something.
I'd say as long as everything turns smoothly, you should be ok.

Excellent -was hoping it was just me having undone in reverse to how I’ve done it before.
