I have some TPMS sensors that are rubbing on the rims when off-road. The solutions are either find a suitable piece of rubber tube to go over the sensors, which is likely to fall off at some stage or go with some metal valve stems. Has anyone had experience with metal stems and know of any issues to look out for?

Put a bit of single sided foam tape on the rim???

I fitted heat-shrink sleeves to the caps - slightly softer than the hard plastic.

There is a metal part to the sensor that causes the rubbing so something soft will disappear quickly. I wanted to know if there are any issues running metal stems in mud, sand etc

A friend had a metal stem sheared open by a rock on a steep, rocky offroad track.
The wheels have very little dish which places the stem close to obstacles.
That was a very tricky wheel change due to the position & terrain.
I'd rather run rubber stems and protect the rim even if the protection has to be periodically replaced.

Here's a link to a previous thread that may be helpful.

I removed my Tyredog TPMS before doing the Gibb River Road (https://www.aulro.com/afvb/l319-discovery-3-and-4-a/224651-i-removed-my-tyredog-tpms-before-doing-gibb-river-road.html)
