Gday All,

Well been lurking and reading so decided it was time to join the fold. Maybe need my head read, or maybe just my youth resurfacing but put a deposit on a 1990 Vogue with a 3.9 ltr V8 . Its been converted from auto to 5sp so hoping that its a R380 but will confirm it tomorrow.

From what I could tell its relatively rust free or someone has done an awesome job hiding it. Spent 45 mins under it , in it and crawling over it and from what I could see its been looked after. hoodlining is very bad and in need of repair but other than that and the paint being a bit average I am pretty happy.

Don't know much about them , but I can read the awesome amount of info on here and I have never been to shy to ask if I am not sure , so look out the questions might be coming in droves.

I will post up some pics once I get her home.

Nice rangie, welcome to the fold

Thanks for the welcome, got a lot to learn but I have swung the odd spanner or two so hoping that I can do most of any work myself.

Was a spur of the moment thing , but felt right so I bought it. tie will tell I guess.

Cheers Ean

That picture has put a smile on my face, what a great example.
You have done well. Fix the roof and enjoy what we have all been enjoying for years.
I also own a D2 TD5 and love that but My 89 Rangie is just different it puts a smile on my face every time I drive it, you will soon understand.....[bigsmile1][bigsmile1]

lovely looking car in the pictures...... Yes, tinker with it yourself. You'll love it. The effortless rumble, the roar of the fuel rushing to the engine as she sedately hauls away trying to get to the speed limit. You'll love it off road, they sort of climb there way over anything you point them at.

I don't hate them with a slugomatic gearbox. It makes them nicer for most people to drive with all the drivetrain lash. (having said that, make mine a manual every single time).

Does it have an LT230 fitted yet ? That would be my first change (or rebuilding the borg warner... the borg warner is way quieter IMO ).

What is the interior like. I reckon finding one with good plastic inside is the hardest bit.

Everything interior is not bad except the hoodlining ,its in bad need of repair. needs a good clean inside - ie carets and seats but all in all I was very surprised in the condition it was in. The bloke who had it had about half a dozen rangies and his daily driver is a P38a autobiography , so taking with him he knew his stuff. He seemed pretty straight up and the price was right so seemed like a good idea.

As for the gearbox , I am pretty sure its a r380 but I am going back tomorrow so will have a better look but he did say he converted it from auto to 5 speed and it is a land rover box. I am getting the auto box and all the parts he swapped out with it.

All in all I have seen far worse examples of these and they don't come around to often up here.

One thing I did notice was the suspension seemed very soft, sitting on the tail gate made it lean and slope back - is this normal or is it just the 28yr old standard looking suspension being tired.

I fully expect to have to replace some gear especially shocks etc but wonder if that's part of the supple ride they seem known.

Well done Ean,, I’d say it looks good, but I can’t see it on my phone [bigsad]

I had a very old Rangie many years ago, it was super soft in the suspension, and used to wollow all over the place from memories,, but it was a bit tired 😴 when I got it. Awesome car to drive though.

My 93 D1 (which is basically a RR with a cheap suit on) rocked and rolled,, the long travel softness is part of its character. Just plain old oil shockies with no roll bars. Luxury.

The aim was to travel in comfort not necessarily swiftly [emoji849]
